Catholic Literary Arts of Houston and the University of St. Thomas are sponsoring a poetry contest for catholic youth in 7th-12th grade. The challenge is to write a poem inspired by the Canticle of All Creatures written by St. Francis of Assisi, to increase writing skills, and to increase writing confidence.

There are three contest categories:
1. Archdiocesan Catholic School Community: Students in Archdiocesan-affiliated Catholic Schools
2. LUX Community: Students in Homeschool or Independent Catholic Schools
3. LUMEN Community: Students in Public Schools

Contest Overview:
*Deadline: September 10, 2026, at 11:59 pm CST.
*Purpose: To inspire students in the greater Houston area to write about spiritual topics, increase writing skills, and increase writing confidence.
*Entry Fee: $10 per participating individual student.
*1st place (for Each Category): $100 cash prize, poem published in the Catholic Literary Arts Alleluia Poetry Anthology.

Today, Sunday 8/9, there are beginning of the school year prayers being said at various schools in AISD. St. John the Baptist Catholic Church is assigned to Rise Academy on House Street. All are invited to join together at 4:15pm at Rise Academy to pray for all students and teachers. Hope to see you there!
