What a wonderful morning of service, fellowship, and abundance! Today, our weekly Houston Food Bank distribution provided families throughout Northern Brazoria County with fresh, nutritious food, including milk, carrots, onions, squash, watermelons, pineapples, grapefruit, bananas, and beets. Thanks to the generosity of the Houston Food Bank and our dedicated volunteers, thousands of pounds of fresh produce made their way into the hands of our neighbors. We were especially blessed today by a group of young volunteers from The Harbor in Friendswood. These students, having just completed 5th grade, are participating in Harbor Kids Camp and are spending this week serving at different locations throughout the community. Their mission is simple and inspiring: to be the hands and feet of Jesus by serving others. Their enthusiasm, energy, and willingness to help made a tremendous difference, and we are grateful for their servant hearts. As today’s distribution was taking place, Mother Suzanne and Ed Carrette were traveling home from Washington, D.C., following the Bread for the World 2026 Advocacy Summit. There, they joined faith leaders and advocates from across the country and met with congressional offices on Capitol Hill to speak on behalf of families, seniors, and children facing food insecurity. While our volunteers were feeding neighbors here in Alvin, Grace’s voice was also being heard in our nation’s capital, advocating for policies and programs that help ensure families have enough food on their tables. Every Thursday at Grace, we are reminded that ministry happens not only inside our church walls, but also in loading groceries, carrying boxes, sharing smiles, building relationships, and raising our voices for those who might otherwise go unheard. Whether through direct service or advocacy, we are called to love our neighbors and seek their well-being. Thank you to The Harbor, our faithful volunteers, the Houston Food Bank, and everyone who helps make this ministry possible week after week. “For I was hungry and you gave me food…” — Matthew 25:35

Advocating for Our Neighbors on Capitol Hill

Today was a full and meaningful day in Washington, D.C. as Mother Suzanne and I joined leaders from across Texas, alongside the Episcopal Health Foundation and Bread for the World, to bring the stories of Alvin-area families directly to our elected officials.

We met with the offices of Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, visited with Liam Regan, Legislative Assistant to Congressman Randy Weber, and delivered advocacy materials to Representative Troy Nehls. Our message was simple: hunger is not a political issue—it is a human issue.

Drawing from our experience at Grace Episcopal Church and through our partnership with the Houston Food Bank, we shared what we see every week: families struggling to keep food on the table, seniors forced to choose between groceries and medications, and local food banks working tirelessly to meet growing needs.

We urged Congress to:
• Protect and strengthen SNAP and WIC programs
• Prevent cost shifts that could burden states and reduce food assistance
• Restore the collection of critical food insecurity data used to guide policy
• Support proven global nutrition and health programs that save lives and promote stability

The reality is that charitable organizations, churches, and food banks cannot replace the impact of federal nutrition programs. We can help, and we do help, but ending hunger requires all of us working together.

We are grateful for the opportunity to speak on behalf of the families, seniors, and children we serve every week in Alvin and Northern Brazoria County. Thank you for your prayers and support as we continue this important work.
