Needing More

In Luke 6:38 (NKJV), Jesus says, “Give, and it will given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”
Often, we think we should give when we have more. Sometimes we even pray, “Lord, bless me so that I can bless others.” But when we stop to think about it, we realize that God has already blessed us much. Many times, we have been given more than enough to be a blessing to someone else.
What is interesting about Jesus’ words is the order. He doesn’t say, “It will be given to you, and then you give.” Instead, He says, “Give, and it will be given to you.” Giving is an act of faith. It is a way of saying, “Lord, I trust You as the provider of all that I have.”
While Jesus walked on Earth, He was very generous. He helped people with both their physical and spiritual needs. The early church, as we read in the book of Acts, was likewise very generous. The Jews who believed in Christ shared what they had so that no one among them would be in need. Their giving reflected their faith in God and their love for others.
Today, as we return our tithes and give our offerings, let us remember that God is not asking us to give because He needs our money. He invites us to give because it grows our faith and allows us to participate in His work. We may not need more money as much as we need more faithfulness.
Today, let us give with faithful hearts, trusting in the promise of Jesus found in Luke 6:38 (NKJV): “Give, and it will be given to you.” May the Lord bless you as you give.
