Altoona Bible Institute

Altoona Bible Institute The Altoona Bible Institute exists as a school for advanced Christian training and education. We can train you to work for Christ! Two local men, W. O .H. W. O. H.

Mission Statement
The Altoona Bible Institute exists as a non-degree granting school of adult education, with the purpose of providing advanced training and equipping in Biblical and doctrinal studies, ministry and leadership skills so they may be prepared to do the “work of the ministry”, in a vital and effective relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. In order to accomplish this, the INSTITUTE

brings together a quality faculty from several churches with a shared commitment to Biblical, fundamental convictions. This non-denominational team of instructors sustains a community of Christian love and fellowship for serving God in a changing world. History
The ALTOONA BIBLE INSTITUTE began its teaching ministry in 1934. Garman, a Presbyterian pastor, and Russell Aukerman, Executive Secretary of the YMCA, were the organizers. They recruited other laymen of like minds and dedication who saw a need for a fundamental Bible training course in Altoona. On March 19, 1934, they formed a Board of Directors. A professional teaching staff was secured and classes for a two-year curriculum began April, 1934, in the Altoona YMCA, two evenings each week. The Advisory Council was made up on Dr. William L. Pettingill, Dr. Frank C. Torrey, Rev. Garman and Dr. Walter Long. In 1939 the curriculum was increased to the present three-year program. Toward the end of World War II, the building at 1111 Fourteenth Avenue was purchased and the teaching ministry was carried on there until 2011. It is presently located at 711 Third Street, a comfortable and spacious building with 200 feet of open frontage along Seventh Avenue. To “God be the glory” for the blessing of this ministry. The school operates on a trimester basis with a total of fifty-four class offerings, with eighteen classes per term. The Institute provides opportunity for students to obtain a working knowledge of the Word of God without leaving home, job and family.

The Bible contains an extraordinary network of cross-references linking its 66 books together across centuries of writing. Many readers and scholars point to these connections as one of the most remarkable aspects of Scripture.

Written over approximately 1,500 years by around 40 different authors from various geographic regions and cultural backgrounds, the Bible still maintains recurring themes, narratives, and theological ideas throughout its pages.

One of the most discussed examples involves prophecies concerning the Messiah found in the Old Testament. Many Christians believe these prophecies were later fulfilled through the life and ministry of Jesus Christ in the New Testament.

Supporters often highlight the consistency and continuity between books written centuries apart as evidence of the Bible’s unique structure and enduring influence. Cross-reference charts visually demonstrate thousands of thematic links throughout the text.

Beyond its religious significance, the Bible has also shaped literature, history, law, art, music, and culture around the world. It remains the best-selling and one of the most translated books in human history.

For millions of people, the interconnected nature of Scripture continues to inspire study, reflection, and conversations about faith, history, and the meaning of biblical prophecy.
