When you meet someone new in your life and tell your close friends about him or her they naturally ask what this new person in your life is like. We might describe what they do for a living or where they grew up but that isn’t what they want to know. They want to know what interested you in befriending this new person - especially if love is in the air. You wouldn’t say that what drew you to this person was their brand of sneakers. You describe how you see that person - nice smile, thoughtful, handsome, kind, confident, beautiful, smart, perhaps he or she is a good listener. These are personal qualities or attributes of that person.

So how can we get to know and come to love God. We could talk about His miracles - creation itself or the parting of the Red Sea, and so on. We could speak about paintings that try to imagine His appearance. What we really need to know is what are some of His many divine qualities. What are His attributes? This is a new sermon series for the month of February - a month when boxes of candy and bouquets of flowers fly off the shelves. I call this new series: Loving God In His Fullness

So many of today's television shows such as American Idol and The Voice build toward a season cliffhanger through week by week competitions in which the winner is revealed only during the grand finale. The greatest of all possible reveals is that of God and His nature. The truth is that there is no competition where other "divine" contestants are dwindled down each week to just one. God is unique, God is One, God is largely a mystery for if we could comprehend the full nature of God He would too small to be Almighty!

The good news is that we can learn much about God through His Holy Word by carefully seeking and receiving the wonderful and at times fearful knowledge of Him revealed within it's chapters. As we continue to embrace Lent and Easter and what follows we will look at several passages in the very book inspired by our Holy God that reveal His character, nature and work.

Do you think that you do not need to seek such a divine reveal?
You and I do for all that we will do and why we do them reflects our knowledge and acceptance of God and His Son Jesus.

God: Revealed! starts Sunday March 7th. Together we will open our eyes, minds and hearts in growing our faith in the one true living God.
Accept no substitutes!

Most of the crises you may face may or may not involve tailspinning on an iced-over bridge or being on an airplane when somebody smells smoke.. Instead, as Christians, we must learn how to survive the daily challenges of living out our faith in this complicated world. We can be frozen in place filled with uncertainty and on the cusp of giving up or going into a panic. Even though the just completed year of weirdness is now in our rearview mirror, more troubles are always on the horizon no matter what the year on the top of the calendar says. Jesus never taught that Christianity is an automatic exemption from trials.

Indeed, when the Christian-murdering Paul met the resurrected Jesus on the road to Damascus Jesus told Paul that he would suffer much carrying the gospel to his fellow jews and then to the pagan gentiles. Paul would not suffer because God was punishing him for persecuting the followers of Jesus, Paul would suffer at the hands of those he preached to that hated the gospel of Jesus Christ. Nothing has changed.

So this new month of this new year begins a brand new sermon series kicking off this brand new year “The Year of Living Courageously”. Living courageously means to know that we are sheep among wolves yet we go out among them so that some may become children of God as we are, the sheep of our Good Shepherd’s flock.

The Year Of Living Courageously starts this Sunday, January 3rd. We will learn together on living courageously..

After a year like 2020, we really need this!
