Good morning! Today is a great day to swing by for your favorite coffee. 5 years ago today we opened these doors not knowing what to expect. All we knew was that God had lead us to do this. I never imagined getting to where we are now. There’s been times where we almost closed the doors but with the help of our family, church and community we’ve been blessed to still be here. Jesus’ invitation in Matthew 4:19 was both concise and direct, just as His conclusion in Matthew 28:19–20 was clear and purposeful. The message of the Gospel begins with a call to follow Him and to become fishers of men. There was never an invitation from Jesus that left people where they were. He never led anyone to believe they could remain in their current condition and still be part of His Kingdom here on earth.

His message was, “Turn away”—but not just turning away from sin; it also included, “Come and follow Me.” And His message concluded with, “I am leaving now—go.” Specifically, go and do what I have called and saved you to do: fish for men and women. As we catch them, we are to do what He did—teach them what He taught us, including how to fish for others.

As leaders of God’s flock, let us be diligent not to allow those who are willing to follow to become hindered by our human frailties. Instead, let us point them consistently to the finished work of Jesus on Calvary. Let us equip them to rely on the power He has given us—His Holy Spirit—and encourage them to go.

What a joy it is to be chosen by God Himself to teach this “fine art” of fishing. And truly, fishing is a joy.
