“He Is Risen!!
He Is Risen Indeed!!”
Primary Scripture:
• Matthew 28:1–10
• Mark 16:1–8
• Luke 24:1–12
• John 20:1–18
Early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, several women who loved Jesus went to His tomb. They were still grieving the terrible events of Friday and came carrying spices to anoint His body, on Sunday, as they were not allowed to do on the recognized Jewish Sabbath. They expected to find a sealed tomb and the body of their crucified Savior.
Instead, they found the stone rolled away.
The tomb was empty.
Angels declared the words that changed history forever: “He is not here: for he is risen, as he said” (Matthew 28:6, KJV). Jesus had conquered death, just as He promised. The grave could not hold Him. Sin had been defeated. The sacrifice was accepted. Hope was alive.
Mary Magdalene, overcome with grief and confusion, remained near the tomb weeping. There, the risen Jesus appeared to her personally. He called her by name, and in that moment sorrow turned into joy. The One who had been dead was alive forevermore.
The resurrection was not simply a miracle. It was the victory of God’s redemptive plan. Easter Sunday declares that Jesus is the prophet, priest, and the risen Lord and King. Because He lives, those who trust in Him have forgiveness, hope, and eternal life with Him.

Old Testament Prophecy Fulfilled
The resurrection was foretold long before the empty tomb.
Prophecy:
Psalm 16:10
“For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.”
Fulfillment:
Acts 2:31–32
“He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. This Jesus hath God raised up…”
David spoke prophetically of the Messiah, whose body would not remain in the grave. Jesus fulfilled that promise through His resurrection.
Another beautiful foreshadowing is found in Isaiah:
Prophecy:
Isaiah 25:8
“He will swallow up death in victory…”
Fulfillment:
1 Corinthians 15:54–55
“Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?”

Why It Matters
If Jesus had remained in the grave, there would be no gospel hope. But because He rose again death is was not the end, for those whose hope is found in Jesus.
The Resurrection is the foundation of Christian faith. Jesus is alive today, and because He lives, we can face our fears, our grief, our failures, and even death itself with confidence in Him.
