Many hands made light work! FBC members gathered on Saturday April 11th to do a little spring cleaning and yard work. One team worked to spruce up the grounds while the second team worked on making our fellowship hall clean, bright, and shiny. Of course there was pizza and cookies too! Thanks for all of your hard work! It looks great!

Our GriefShare volunteers invite everyone to the former pre-K classroom area after our worship service this Sunday, March 22nd, for light refreshments. This occasion marks 15 years of GriefShare here at First Baptist Church of Altavista. It's a wonderful opportunity to learn more about this ministry, especially if you have not seen the renovated space where they meet!

Today is Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of the season of Lent. Lent begins with a small marking of ashes; a little dust that confronts us with our sin and our mortality. People often “give up” something for Lent as a reminder of Jesus’ sacrifice and calling for our lives. In the Bible, ashes are used to signify mourning or repentance. When we take part in the imposition of ashes, we remember Christ’s sacrifice and repent of our sin.
