The sign in front of our meeting place states that we are a "church of Christ." This explains to all who we are. We are a church (an assembly of people) who are "of Christ" (i.e., we belong to Christ). Such has existed since the days of the apostle Paul who wrote, "The churches of Christ salute you" (Romans 16:16). We belong to Christ as our Savior and Lord. He purchased us with His redeeming bloo

d (Acts 20:28). As a group of penitent believers who have been baptized (immersed) into Christ for the forgiveness of our past sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38), We have found peace of mind, joy in living, hope for the future and purpose in life.

God is so brilliant He foresaw our modern world in which it's possible to have 1,000 friends, yet no one to talk to. If we want to thrive in life, we'll need to be a true friend and find a true friend.

Genesis 1:26a - "Then God said, 'Let US make man in OUR image."

God used the plural US and OUR because making humanity in God's image was one of the greatest undertakings of all time. God not only created us in His likeness, but because of our sin, God needed to RE-create us in His likeness which was a massive project spanning thousands of years that required teamwork from all 3 persons of the Godhead.

Old Testament = The work of the Father
Gospels = The work of the Son
Rest of the New Testament = The work of the Holy Spirit

This outline is a little over-simplified since Father, Son, and Spirit have worked together in every age, but in the Bible the emphasis undoubtedly shifts between the 3 over time. The point is, only the teamwork of God in all His fullness could possibly accomplish something so amazing; to make sinful humanity in His likeness.

James 1:2-3 - "Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance."

Before driving across a bridge, wouldn't we want it to pass tests first to ensure it can handle the weight? Before heart surgery, wouldn't we want the surgeon to have passed their tests in school?

We want everything and everyone around us tested for safety and skill. Testing assures us what we're putting our hope and trust in is real. So why wouldn't we want our faith tested too?

Anyone can say they have faith. But most of us don't want to be tested, and not everyone passes the tests when they come.

James tells us to consider it all joy when we suffer, because it's an opportunity to test our faith to see if it's real. With each test we pass, it not only makes us stronger (since tests push us past our previous limitations), it assures us and God that our faith is real and we're not pretending.

Since we're saved by faith, the more real our faith, the more real our salvation -- and there's nothing more joyful!

Are you afraid of conflict? If so, it can have disastrous consequences. The good news is, God can help us overcome our fear of conflict by faith in Him!

"Do you all not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win." - 1 Corinthians 9:24

While we're called to run the Christian race with all our might, winning isn't determined by our own human strength. Have you ever been on a moving walkway at an airport or theme park? That's what running the Christian race is like. Like a moving walkway, God's grace and His Holy Spirit propel us forward, making us run FAR faster and farther than we ever could on our own. When we get tired, when we stumble in sin and get injured, or when we get discouraged and can't run for a while, we can rest and catch our breath in His grace and power and know He'll still keep us moving forward towards the finish line despite our weaknesses.

Don't quit; keep running. Give God all glory for the times you run well, and trust Him in the times you don't.

Suffering in this life is inevitable; how we respond to it is a choice. Jesus showed us how to suffer well so that God gets the glory, even in our pain!

Our culture tends to demonize shame, but shame isn't toxic or evil. God gave us shame to promote social cohesion and human flourishing through community. It CAN become toxic, but righteous shame is a blessing with many benefits!
