Our Identity:
Our name itself helps define who we are and why we’re here. Grace Church was founded in 2001 with a vision to reach the North Atlanta community and beyond with the Gospel of God’s matchless gr
ace in Jesus Christ. We are an independent community church that is Baptistic in theology and driven by the desire to be a people-loving, God-centered, Christ-exalting, Bible-saturated congregation. We are deeply committed to the sovereignty of God and the authority of Scripture, and to teaching it faithfully, and obeying it with our hearts. While valuing the importance of the old and new, the historic and current, we seek to worship with a richness and freshness that overflows into an authentic expression of adoration to God from hearts that are eager for God to draw near to us. We sincerely desire to be the kind of church family where you will feel Christ’s love through us, and where God’s grace is evident in our openness and outgoing spirit; where genuine and joyful love permeates relationships that are personal, supportive, and faith-building. We trust that you’ll discover God’s grace among us. Our prayer is that we live up to both His and our name. Our Vision:
Our passion is to glorify our great God by spreading the glad message of His grace to as many people as possible, both locally and globally, and disciple believers in spiritual maturity and joyful service to Jesus Christ. We are excited about the ministry that God has called us to in this community and around the globe. Our goal is to magnify our great God by exalting Him to “every tribe, tongue and nation.” We invite you to join us in the greatest purpose of all … the mission to “fill the earth with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” (Habakkuk 2:4)
Worship:
At Grace, we love to worship. We want to be passionate worshippers of the God who is infinitely worthy of our deepest affection. In fact, we believe that that’s why we were created – to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. So, worshipping God is how we fulfill our created purpose as humans, and how we worship God reflects what we believe about God. Therefore, the church’s worship is an important matter that needs to be well grounded in Scripture, because at least two really big issues are at stake, namely, the glory of God, and the edification of believers. Ephesians 5:19 includes both of those aims when speaking to the church’s worship: “speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,”
In order that those two aims might be realized in corporate worship, we believe that our worship of God needs to be governed by the Word of God, not man’s opinions, preferences, or even traditions. Thus, worship in the church should be both guided by Scripture, and saturated by Scripture. So, at Grace, we strive to keep God and His Word central in worship. We strive to do this by regularly:
1. Reading the Word
2. Preaching the Word
3. Praying the Word
4. Singing the Word
5. Seeing the Word (through the ordinances of baptism and communion)
The reason the Word of God needs to be central in all aspects of our worship, not merely our singing, is simply because it is the Word of God that builds people up and glorifies God the most. The Word of God has power. Because we want to be Word-oriented, we choose and use songs that:
1. Fill our mind with God’s character
2. Form our worldview by God’s truth
3. Teach us about the Biblical meaning of the Gospel. (Click here to view our master song list)
In other words, we want to worship God through songs and music that give us a high view of God and His Word. The reason for this is because we believe that music is a teaching ministry of the church, in the same way that reading, preaching, praying and demonstrating the Word in the ordinances are. Therefore, we love to worship God with both light and heat – the light of God-centered, theologically-sound, Gospel-saturated songs that the Holy Spirit can use to ignite our hearts with the heat emotions, affections, and experiences that demonstrate an appropriate and proportionate response to the great truths we sing about, and the great God we sing to. So, at Grace Church, God is the focus, not man. We want God to take our thoughts away from ourselves and this world, and toward Himself, His character, and His Words (the Gospel). Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised!
