The Allen Methodist Church was first organized in 1833 in a log-schoolhouse. The first public building in the village of Allen, once called Allen Prairie., the present church now stands on land purchased by the Board of Trustees for a meetinghouse in 1859. Originally part of the Jonesville-Litchfield Circuit. Our church branched off under the direction of Rev. Hunt in 1865. Church members purchase
d a parsonage in 1867 for about $600. In 1912, fire destroyed the church after an electrical storm struck the church steeple. The present church was built that year under the direction of Rev. Once again on June 16, 1955, the church fell victim to fire, fortunately, the church neighbor, Mrs. Wilson, noticed the fire early and insurance covered the $3,155. loss. Over the years, many improvements and purchases were made. An electric organ was purchased in 1956. Water well and gas utilities were added between 1961 and 1964. In the fall of 1991, pews replaced opera-style seating. Our peace pole was erected in 1992. In 1999, with donations and memorial money, a digital piano was purchased in memory of Eunice Blake, a long time church organist. The church exterior cement walls and bell tower were completed. in addition, dedication of our church's new sign, made available with memorial funds, was held in 2003. Christian and American flags were given in memory of Thelma Marshall and Bill Todd in 2004. We also drilled a new well that was paid for by a generous church member and the UMW. Our eternity light, installed in 2014, is dedicated to Art Sawdey. Current projects include the restoration and weatherproofing of the stained glass windows and fundraising for a church steeple. About 80 different pastors have served the Allen Church since 1833. Over the years our church has grown steadily as we continue to carry out God's will and spread the news of Jesus Christ.
