It’s difficult to experience genuine connection while managing how everyone sees us.

Ananias and Sapphira wanted to present one reality while privately living another. Their story invites us to look beyond money itself and ask what makes honesty feel risky in the first place.

Church as family should create space where reputation matters less than relationship—where we can bring our whole selves into community and allow God to meet us in the truth.

The story of Ananias and Sapphira raises uncomfortable questions about money, honesty, reputation, and approval. Their story isn’t simply about what they possessed—it invites us to consider what was happening beneath the choices they made.

Jesus looked at the rich man and loved him before inviting him to confront the attachment he could not see past.

Being seen and known can expose things we would rather leave untouched—but it can also free us from identities we were never meant to carry. Our possessions, accomplishments, and status may tell part of our story, but they don't get the final word about who we are.

God invites us to discover an identity rooted more deeply in relationship with Him.

How do you measure who you are?

What we own, accomplish, earn, and accumulate can quietly become evidence we use to answer that question. But when Jesus encounters a wealthy man in Mark 10, He looks beyond outward success and obedience to something much deeper.

This Sunday, we’ll explore what our attachments reveal about where we find our identity—and how God invites us to see ourselves differently.

Neither son fully understood the generous heart of their father. One left with what he thought he deserved; the other stayed while measuring the relationship by what he believed he had earned.

But the father wanted more than transactions with his sons. He wanted relationship.

The same invitation is open to us. God desires to share life with us—including the decisions, desires, and attachments we often try to handle on our own. What might change if, instead of simply asking what we’re allowed to do with what we have, we invited God into the conversation?

It can be easier to follow a rule about money than to have an ongoing conversation with God about it.

Rules can tell us what is permitted. Relationship asks deeper questions: *Why do I want this? What am I trusting? What is happening in my heart? Is this drawing me closer to God or farther away?*

The father in Jesus’ story wanted more than obedience or transactions from his sons. He wanted relationship. Following God invites us into that same kind of shared life—one where even our money can become part of the conversation.

In Jesus’ story of the father and his two sons, both sons struggle to understand the heart of their father. One takes what is his and leaves. The other stays, yet still sees the relationship through what he believes he deserves.

Growth asks us to become open to what God may reveal about us, even in places we've learned not to notice. Being seen and known can become an invitation to live differently.
