The Study Of The Book Of Romans - Pt22
Rom 9:17-33

In today's Bible study, we will discuss the following, among other things: Paul's lamentation in Rom 9 is about individual Israelite's rejection of the Messiah, not of the government's (state's) rejection of Him or non-adoption of Him as a national Messiah, 'Jacob have I loved and Esau have I hated' and 'the elder will serve the younger' further explained in the light of the nation through which the Messiah would come (Israel from Jacob vs Edom from Esau) rather than the individuals themselves (both of whom were successful by all natural/material standards), Further explanation on God's dealing with Pharaoh, in view of what Paul teaches in Rom 1 regarding what happens to man when he chooses against God and refuses to repent despite being given several chances, Interpreting scriptures in the light of New Testament revelation: God did not harden Pharaoh, He gave him up to a hardened heart which he loved, when he refused to repent despite God's mercy severally extended towards him, Lesson from Pharaoh: God will no force majority of the Israelites (and other gentiles) who chose not to believe the Messiah, the same way He did not force Pharaoh - He will only persuade them like He did Pharaoh, Seeking righteousness through the works of the law - the Israelites' stumbling block.

The Study Of The Book Of Romans - Pt21
Rom 9:1-18

In today's Bible study, we will discuss the following, among other things: The generality of the nation through whom God revealed Himself and His redemptive plan did not believe in the Messiah when He came. Does this not show that the word of God is powerless? The privileges that Old Testament Israel had over other nations, which made Paul wish he were accursed if only it would make his fellow citizens believe in God's Messiah, Reasons why the generality of Israelites do not believe in God's Messiah, despite their privileges under the Old Testament (not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel - examples of Isaac and his siblings, and then Esau and Jacob), Understanding the Old Testament's theology of God's absolute sovereignty that makes it appears everything that happens under the sun is caused/done by God, including evil, God's promises are one thing but their fulfilment is up to man (based on choices we make), What it means that God hardened Pharaoh's heart, what it means God loved Jacob and hated Esau and what it means God has mercy on whom He would.

In today's Bible study, we will discuss the following, among other things; The firstfruits of the Spirit - God fulfilling a part of the promise is a worthy assurance He'll fulfill the rest: He is faithful, The Spirit also helps our infirmities in prayers: what the infirmities are, when He helps, and the practical ways in which He helps, The help of the Holy Spirit bridges the gap and turns what would have been incomplete or inefficient to complete and effective, All things work together for good - what 'all things' are, Those who love God and are called according to His purpose - who they are, What God's eternal purpose is, God's foreknowledge as a function of His omniscience and not the agency for unbelief in those that perish, Conformity to the image of God's Son = Adoption as sons of those who believe in Him (textual proof), Paul's message of comfort to suffering believers: Sufferings/afflictions because of the corruption of this present age cannot frustrate God's eternal purpose and If God be for us, who can be against us: brief exegesis of the last 9vss of Romans 8.
