In the apostle Paul's letter to Rome, he shifts focus to Israel beginning in chapter nine. Building on God's sovereign choice for those whom He saves, Paul now tackles the anticipated question of God's fairness. Is God Just?

This is a question that many people have wrestled with for centuries and continue to wrestle with today. The problem is that we tend to judge God based on our own presuppositions and knowledge. This results in nothing less than frustration without understanding. Why?

Paul gives an illustration to help his readers understand, quoting OT Scripture from Isaiah 45. "Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?" As the creator of all things, God is Omnipresent, Omnipotent, Omniscient. In other words, He is sovereign and has every right to choose what He does. What we fail to understand is that His choices are made with mercy and compassion.

Instead of asking, " Is God just?" We need to ask, "Why should He love sinful people to begin with?" "Why should He have compassion on those who hate Him and His ways?" "Why should He let you and me enter His kingdom knowing the evil in our hearts?" While we cannot possibly presume to know what God knows, the simple answer to all these questions is "Because Jesus offers us forgiveness through Him."

This week in our study of Romans, in Vv. 6-13, the apostle Paul begins to lay out his argument for why he has such deep sorrow for the nation of Israel. Here, he explains how God chooses what He will do to accomplish His plans, regardless of how we as humans intervene or respond to Him. Paul is adamant that God's word or promises haven't failed. Instead, people did. Specifically, the people of Israel. Because of their failure, the failure to accept Jesus as their Messiah, not all of Israel will be saved.

Want to know more about God's sovereign choices? Want to know what salvation really means according to God's word? Join us Sunday at 10:30 for worship, and hear what it's all about.

This weekend, we celebrate Memorial Day. A day that we collectively remember those who perished to preserve our nation and the freedoms we so richly enjoy to this very day.

In Romans 9:1-5, the apostle Paul writes how he also grieves. Not for those who served in the military, but for those fellow countrymen who would perish because they refused to believe in Jesus as the Christ. Because they did not recognize Jesus as their promised Messiah who came to free them from the penalty of sin. Those who were favored by God to receive His blessing as a holy nation now reject the very same God who came in the flesh. But God is not done with Israel yet. He made a covenant with Israel, and He will keep it.

Verses 1-5 can teach us a lot about how we should live our lives as believers today. Want to know more? Join us this Sunday at 10:30 am as we walk through each verse and glean what the apostle has to teach us.

In this powerful passage, the apostle Paul crescendos his message of God's inseparable love. In Vv. 31-35, he poses five rhetorical questions, asking what can separate us from the love of Christ. Now, Paul answers these questions beginning with Psalm 44:22 in v. 36. He announces that believers are like sheep to be slaughtered for the sake of Christ. In other words, the world will hate us because they hate Christ.

In these final verses, Paul explains to his readers that no circumstance, physical or spiritual, can separate us from God's love and the gift of salvation. This is good news for all who believe in faith.

Want to know how you can receive this eternal gift of salvation? Join us for worship beginning at 10:30 am.

Toward the end of Romans, chapter 8, the apostle Paul crescendos the truth he has written about over the last three chapters. Now, as he gives undeniable assurance of a believer's salvation, he introduces five rhetorical questions:
1. If God is for us, who can be against us?
2. How will God, along with Christ Jesus, not graciously give us
all things?
3. Who will bring any charge against those whom God has
chosen and given the gift of His grace to?
4. Who is the one who condemns (believers)?
5. Who can ever separate us from the love of Christ?

By anticipating those who may ask these questions, the apostle provides answers reaffirming the truth found in Scripture, leading his readers to a solid conclusion. That nothing can separate us from God's love that is in Jesus Christ our Lord. Because of His inseparable love, believers can live in this world as more than conquerors.

Want to know the answers to Paul's questions? Do you want to live as more than a conqueror? If so, join us on Sunday beginning at 10:30 am for worship!
