St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church Our St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church in Aliquippa, PA has served the faithful of this parish for more than 100 years.

This is the second location of the church, the first one being located in Woodlawn, PA, in West Aliquippa. We welcome all those who love the beauty of Christ's house.

The Apostles’ Fast Begins

Today we begin the Apostles’ Fast, also known as the Fast of Saints Peter and Paul. This ancient fast dates back to the earliest centuries of the Church and prepares us for the feast of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul.

The length of this fast changes from year to year because it begins on the Monday after All Saints Sunday, which depends on the date of Pascha, and it ends before the feast of Saints Peter and Paul. Because Pascha moves each year, the Apostles’ Fast can be shorter or longer.

This fast is traditionally considered one of the gentlest fasting seasons of the Church. Unlike Great Lent, it does not have the same number of strict liturgical days, such as the first week, the Great Canon, or Holy Week. Most days are lighter in fasting discipline, often allowing fish, wine, and oil.

Yet its purpose is still very important: prayer, repentance, self-discipline, and spiritual renewal. As the Apostles prepared themselves through prayer and fasting before preaching the Gospel, may we also use this holy season to draw closer to Christ.
