Knights of Columbus - Council 11091

Knights of Columbus - Council 11091 Since 1882, charity has been our first principle. Knights of Columbus are men of faith and action. Thanks to the efforts of Father Michael J.

McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven and some of his parishioners, the Connecticut state legislature on March 29, 1882, officially chartered the Knights of Columbus as a fraternal benefit society. The Order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity and fraternity. The Knights was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and a

ssistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works. The history of the Order shows how the foresight of Father Michael J. McGivney, whose cause for sainthood is being investigated by the Vatican, brought about what has become the world's foremost Catholic fraternal benefit society. The Order has helped families obtain economic security and stability through its life insurance, annuity and long-term care programs, and has contributed time and energy worldwide to service in communities.

Knights of Columbus - Council 11091 are again hosting a Thanksgiving Day dinner in McDonnell Hall for up to 40 United States Navy Recruits. The recruits come from Great Lakes Naval Station, located in Lake County, home to the Navy’s only Navy boot camp.

For many of the young recruits this is their first time away from Family on a major holiday. The Adopt-A-Sailor event provides a traditional Thanksgiving Day feast, ability to reconnect with family and friends via the donated phones and computers, and a few hours of time to just relax and unwind away from the stresses of boot camp.

This is all made possible from the generous donations from many St. Margaret Mary Parishioners. We need donations of Thanksgiving Day menu items (a family favorite of your choice), that can be dropped off at McDonnell Hall in advance or on T-day. The Knights also welcome everyone to stop by to welcome and socialize with the recruits or to help with the set-up serving and clean-up.

Here are some pictures from the bags tournament tonight. We had 9 players for a beautiful evening of bags. It was Nick and Jerry in an epic battle requiring the second match to determine the winner. Nick came out victorious winning the big prize. It was a good time had by all for these tournaments this summer.

As a reminder, we won't have a tournament in September.
