Day 63

Quiet In His Love

The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.””
‭‭Zephaniah‬ ‭3‬:‭17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Our Lord is, “mighty to save.” The thought of Almighty God taking delight in us and comforting us with His love gives our soul quietness and hope. When we imagine Him rejoicing over us with singing, we are reminded that He is our Father, and we are His children. 1 John 5 His desire is to comfort.

In the “quietness and confidence” that comes from God alone (Isaiah 32: 17), we will hold on as we watch, pray, and wait. And we will be comforted by Him. He is the God who gives endurance and encouragement.” Romans 15: 5

When our beloved prodigals were little there were lullabies and happy songs; quiet moments. From the moment they were born, we held them in our arms with the softness of their cheek next to ours. Those quiet moments were precious.

Though they are older and have made choices that have interrupted our lives and grieved us, we will never give up on them. We will “keep on praying” (Ephesians 6: 18) until they are restored to right relationship with their Heavenly Father.

Because of His kindness and mercy we ”do not lose heart.” 2 Corinthians 4: 1 He IS “mighty to save!”

Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vine, though the olive crop fails, and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior. Habakkuk 3:17-19

Our quietness comes from His presence where there is fullness of joy. In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Psalms‬ ‭16‬:‭11‬b,c NKJV‬‬

Day 62

For The Keeping of Angels

See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven. Matthew 18:10

How many times have we prayed for angels to look after our beloved prodigals when we could not? There were many days for us. Our son chose not to be in our lives for a long time. He lived in another state with his family which caused us much concern. We prayed many prayers for angels to surround and protect them. God heard our prayers.

Our beloved prodigals need the protection of the angels of the Lord. Just as when He sent one to watch over Daniel and “shut the mouths of the lions.” Daniel 6: 22 We need His angels to go where we cannot go.

Some might think it presumptuous to ask for angels for those walking in disobedience but God is merciful. 1 Kings 19: 3-7, Genesis 19:16 Who are we to judge or withhold our payers?

We ask for angels from heaven. Let a stranger show them kindness. Hebrews 13:2 “The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, and He delivers them.” Psalm 34:7

We pray they never lose their fear (reverence, awe) and love of God. “So He became their Savior. In all their affliction He was afflicted, And the Angel of His Presence saved them; In His love and in His pity He redeemed them; And He bore them and carried them.” Isaiah‬ ‭63‬:‭8‬b,9‬c

Day 61

When Angels Sing

In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of God over one sinner who repents.
Luke 15:10

We pray believing. Our Mighty God is in control. He has power to set our beloved prodigals free! We have faith therefore we pray with faith. His joy will be their joy! By faith, we hear the music in Heaven and the angels singing!

Almighty God created our beloved prodigals and gave them life. He longs for them with an everlasting love. He gave His all .. everything .. for them to be set free. We know this. This is why we “come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:16

When a sinner repents, angels sing and rejoice. All of Heaven joins the Hallelujah Chorus as He sets another one free.

Day 60

Dressed in Armor

Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. Ephesians 6:11

We are in this battle with the Lord. Equip us, Lord, in the fight. Equip our beloved prodigals and cover them from the adversary, the devil, who walks about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8 In Your Name, we pray.

When our prodigals are in harm’s way and there’s no way for us to know, we don’t panic; we pray. We ask the Lord to dress them in His armor made especially for them.

Show them “Your ways, O Lord.” Teach them, “Your paths.” Psalms 25:4 Protect them with Your breastplate of righteousness. We “take up the shield of faith to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” Ephesians 6:16

Dress them completely with Your armor until they once again take it up. We will pray and believe that no weapon formed will prosper. Isaiah 54:17

Day 59

Back To Flame

A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not s***f out. Isaiah 42:3

Full and complete trust in God with our beloved prodigals is a process; a God-process. We believe we can trust God’s hand however we are guilty of taking them back. In the moment, we try hard and yet we are human.

Could it be that God intends this for the purpose of our understanding and empathizing with them when they return? Their struggle is real and personal. The appropriate guidance and support back to the flame that once burned in their hearts will be critical. It will require Godly love, understanding and wisdom.

God’s ways are higher than ours. He loves our prodigals more than we do. He wants them to thrive in their walk with Him. They need us spiritually, emotionally healthy and mature in their restoration. That comes through personal preparation of prayer, fasting, studying the Word, and our own experiences.

Lord, in Your hands, even a smoldering wick can come to life again. We praise You that You are helping us. Open our hearts to learn more of You. In Your name and with our love and prayers, faith will burn brightly once more. We believe!

Day 58

Wonderful Light

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into Him wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9

Day and night, darkness and light have been under Almighty God’s control since before time began. He sees in the dark! Even the “darkness is as light to Him” (Psalm 139: 12), and in Him “there is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1: 5 He is light and hope! He will bring our beloved prodigals out of “the dominion of darkness.” Colossians 1:13 He knows the way home.

We praise the One who will soon “bring” them ”out of darkness into” His “marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9 When they fall, we know that He will be their light (Micah 7:8) just as He is ours on our darkest days.

We can never allow ourselves to get to the place of hopelessness, no matter how dark the situations in our lives. There is always hope in Jesus, The Way, The Truth, and The Light. John 14:6

Very soon we will declare His praises together forever (1 Peter 2: 9).

Week 9

Waiting For An Answer

“Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!” Matthew‬ ‭15‬:‭25‬ ‭

“Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭15‬:‭28‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” Mark‬ ‭11:24‬ ‭KJV‬‬. Refusing not to believe with everything within us in what our great and mighty God can do keeps us in our situations longer than God intends.

Jesus did not not answer the Syrophenician Woman in Matthew 15 initially. His disciples came and urged him, saying, “Send her away, for she keeps shouting after us.” Matthew 15:23 Her persistent faith impressed Jesus; her belief. She received what she desired from Him. Her daughter was healed that very hour.

Lord, help our unbelief.

Day 57

A Discerning Heart

Give Your servant a discerning heart ... to distinguish between right and wrong.” 1 Kings 3:9

We need the wisdom and discernment of God with our beloved prodigals. His Word says we can ask and it will be given liberally. James 1:5-8 We ask for we realize that we can’t do this on our own. We need the One who is The Way Maker and The Miracle Worker.

We pray for discerning hearts to perceive the ways of the enemy for our beloved prodigals. They need good judgment and wisdom to choose between right and wrong.

Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. Daniel 12:3

Day 56

Strength Only You Can Give

Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:30–31

Wait is ‘quavah’ in Hebrew which is the word for making rope. Rope was made in those days, as it is today, by the binding of strands of fabric together very tightly. Thus, this “waiting upon the Lord” carries the idea of binding ourselves to Him. These fabric strands of rope in ancient times which were bound together tended to come loose and on occasion had to be rebound. As they were rebound the strength of the rope was renewed, just as when we drift away from God and then return. We begin binding ourselves to Him again and in tightening that bind we become stronger. When we bind ourselves to God we will not only renew our strength we will mount up with wings as eagles. CBM

Thankfully we understand God’s beautiful covenant and our prayers cover those in covenant with Him; our beloved prodigals. We bind ourselves to Him today knowing His love and His grace reaches deep. When we would not begin to comprehend the depth of His mercy and grace, He still reaches deep. For that love and mercy, we are so very, very grateful.

Our Heavenly Father also has love, grace, and strength in abundance for us. He is our Strength Giver. Our hope and our help is in Him.

Day 55

God’s Choosing

When I came to the spring today, I said, “O LORD, God of my master Abraham, if you will, please grant success to the journey on which I have come.” Genesis 24:42

There is no thing God isn’t aware of in the past, present, or future. Whether our beloved prodigals are with the one they are supposed to be with now or they aren’t, He knows. He knows the one who will bless their lives. He can wipe clean their past and He can rearrange their future. He can save, deliver, heal, set free, and bring light into darkness. He can choose. He knows.

We pray, “Not my will, but Thine, Lord!”

We praise Him, for He is in control! He is Sovereign and He reigns over all! He is omniscient, infinitely wise, knowing all things!

We pray blessings upon our prodigals. We pray to be blessings. We will not bless what He hasn’t blessed and we will not cancel out a blessing that He intends. We pray for the spiritual discernment we need as we seek His will. We pray not for our will, but His.

We thank Him for His constant love that is ever toward us all. We trust His Sovereign will, for He knows the end from the beginning. Amen!

Day 54

Straight Steps

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭5‬-‭6‬

It is easy to believe God is less than pleased with our beloved prodigals. We tend to focus on His anger toward them because of our feelings. He does hate their sin however He loves them more than we could ever believe.

God has a unique way of endearing Himself to each one of His covenant children in a special way. He is THE Mighty God who is also a very personal God. We must remember He defeated sin, our sin, their sin on Calvary.

The war over sin is not with our prodigals. They aren’t the enemy. God loves them with a jealous love for He is a jealous God. Exodus 34:14 When they hit rock bottom, He will meet them wherever they are and pull them up, back into His loving arms. He wants to help them straighten out their lives and their steps that will one day lead them back to Him and their heavenly home.
