Francis Xavier Cathedral is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Alexandria, located in Alexandria, Louisiana. The cathedral was established in 1834 and was later added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 29th, 1984.

On this Trinity Sunday, we welcomed participants in the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. We celebrated the Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens for those who have never been baptized and the Rite of Welcome as Candidates for those already baptized. These Catechumens and Candidates come from throughout the diocese, not just from the Cathedral parish. Thank you to Deacon Jason Lavergne who is coordinating these “out-of-schedule” OCIA sessions.

This Solemnity of Pentecost marked the end of the "Confirmation Season" that began on Sunday, March 1. In the course of these three months, I have been honored to confirm approximately 270 disciples - primarily those in high school, but some adults as well. We look forward to the way that the graces of the Sacrament will be made manifest in the lives of these newly confirmed.

Today I was pleased to ordain two of our seminarians - Gabe Dowden and Blaine Phillips- as transitional deacons. Pictured from left to right are Father Luke LaFleur (our Diocesan Vocations Director), Deacon Blaine Phillips, me, Deacon Gabe Dowden, and Father Joshua Rodrigue Rector-President of Notre Dame Seminary). Please pray for our two new deacons, for all of our seminarians, and for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life.
