We have been studying the book of Ruth. We have been blessed as we have read the 1st chapter and begin to see the story of a brokenness, loss, grief and also begin to see that God was walking with Naomi and her two daughters-in-law through a deep valley. We will soon see Naomi and Ruth continue the journey back to Bethlehem (The House of Bread). Below is a few notes for discussion on next Wednesday. We would love for all of you to join us at 6pm for Bible Study next week. Bring a friend!

Day 2 A Hopeful
After hardship and suffering, we get a faint glimpse that perhaps God had not been absent after all. Could it be that He has long been working behind the scenes, under the soil, and now His goodness is cropping up above the ground as the barley harvest is beginning? Though it's still too early in the story to know what God is up to, I love this quote by biblical commentator Robert Hubbard, "When God is at work, bitter hopelessness can be the beginning of some surprising good."

What is something you've prayed or waited for over a long period of time? Have you seen a glimpse - no matter how small - that God is working? Are there any promises in Scripture you're clinging to?

God gives assurance of provision to us! Every grain of barley represents opportunity, sustenance, hope, and the reminder of God's presence and perfect timing - Ruth and Naomi's return coincided with God's coming to the aid of His people.

Are you in a season of sowing, reaping, or both?

Read the following scriptures: Genesis 8:22, Exodus 34:21, Leviticus 23:9-14.
How can we apply the Exodus and Leviticus principles to our modern lives?
Jeremiah 5:24 - Jeremiah complained that the people he prophesied to did NOT regard God in what way?

Spiritually - we are sowing and reaping continually.
Read Psalm 126

Galatians 6:9 "Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we do not give up."

Could you use a glimpse of God breaking through the long barren land of a certain season? Do not give up; keep sowing. God is faithful, He has not forgotten you. He sees your labor of love and His promises to you will not fail. (Heb. 6:10-12). At just the right time, the barley harvest will begin, and you may just so happen to be arriving.
