Living in the Anointing

“But you have an anointing from the Holy One…” (1 John 2:20)

Living in the anointing is not about a feeling, a title, or a moment on a church platform. It is daily living under the influence and empowerment of the Holy Spirit.

In Scripture, oil and the Spirit are closely connected. When David was anointed with oil, the Spirit of the Lord came upon him powerfully. Jesus Himself connected anointing with the Holy Spirit, declaring that the Spirit of the Lord was upon Him.

The same Holy Spirit who empowered believers in Acts is still at work today. Peter declared in Acts 2:38-39 that the promise of the Holy Spirit is for all whom the Lord calls.

So what does living in the anointing look like?

Signs of the Anointing:
• A growing sensitivity to God’s voice
• Conviction that keeps your heart aligned with Him
• A genuine love for people
• Boldness to stand for truth
• A deeper spiritual hunger for God’s presence
• Power to overcome sin and temptation
• The fruit of the Spirit becoming evident in your life
• A lasting impact in ministry and service to others

The anointing is not meant to make us famous—it is meant to make us faithful.

According to 1 John 2:27, the anointing abides in believers. The Holy Spirit is not just with you on Sundays; He is with you every day, guiding, teaching, strengthening, and empowering you to live for Christ.

Don’t just seek moments of anointing. Seek a life surrendered to the Holy Spirit.

When you walk with Him daily, His power becomes evident not only in what you do, but in who you become.

Speaking in Tongues: A Gift of Help Beyond Ourselves

Before Jesus ascended, He told His disciples to wait for the promise of the Father (Luke 24:49). He promised they would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them (Acts 1:8). In Acts 2:1-4, that promise was fulfilled as the Holy Spirit filled the believers and they began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Many of us have experienced moments when our minds ran out of words. Moments of grief, uncertainty, burden, or desperation where we simply didn’t know what to pray.

That’s one reason God gave us this gift.

• Tongues help you pray when you don’t know what to say (Romans 8:26).
• Tongues build you up spiritually (1 Corinthians 14:4).
• Tongues connect you to God in a personal way (1 Corinthians 14:2).
• Tongues help in spiritual warfare as we pray in the Spirit (Ephesians 6:18).

Speaking in tongues isn’t about losing control—it’s about yielding control. There’s a difference.

The Holy Spirit doesn’t force Himself on anyone. He invites us to trust Him. You receive the Holy Spirit the same way you receive salvation: by faith.

You don’t have to be afraid. You don’t have to overthink it.

The Holy Spirit gives the utterance, but you do the speaking.

And remember: don’t seek a performance—seek Jesus.
