Our longtime friend Leticia Chavez-Paulette and the team at A Peaceful Habitation are hosting a free seminar to help people who are caregivers to families with incarcerated members. If you or someone you know has some of the concerns listed in the attached flyer, you can find some excellent help and tips on helping your friends and families, and meet others who are in similar circumstances. The event is on August 30th at Tramway Community Church. Please feel free to share this with anyone you think may be interested.

International Students Inc. (ISI), one of the ministries supported by SPC, works at UNM to assist foreign students with getting apartments and all the necessities for living in Albuquerque while attending school. One of their services is to furnish the apartments with donated furniture. ISI just found out that they have lost their free furniture storage place due to property sale. They need to find a new free place to store furniture donations. This furniture giveaway is a KEY component of their ministry. If you know anyone who may be able to help them, please send Joan an email at [email protected]. For more info on ISI, visit their website.

Monday - Friday 10:00am - 3pm (or by appointment) Come see us for all your arrival needs: apartment finding help, free lunch, free furniture, household goods, to find out about ISI...

I received this information recently about staying cool and hydrated during these hot summer days. The information included places in Albuquerque’s downtown and International District areas where people came come in off the street for hydration and cooling. I am posting here as a public service.

The three biggest needs of unsheltered people during hot weather are:
1. Water
2. Electrolyte mix
3. Shade (or better yet, air conditioning)
Just a reminder, water alone can never fix dehydration caused by being in the sun too long. Because when we sweat, we lose water and electrolytes. Both the water and the electrolytes have to be replaced.

To replace the electrolytes, you need to add salt and sugar to water in the right combination. Gatorade and Powerade drinks and mixes contain the correct combination of electrolytes.

But, if it's an emergency or you want to save money, here is an at-home recipe for the rehydration mix used by the World Health Organization:
• One bottle of water (500 ml or 16.9 oz)
• 3 teaspoon sugar
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
It tastes like sweet and salty water. Some people are fine with the taste while others definitely don't like it. Just remind them that it's medicine to save their lives (or get rid of their dehydration headache).

International Students Inc. (ISI) meets foreign students at UNM, helps them get settled into living spaces, and begin to make friends in this new place. They also invite these students to develop friendships with Americans, and learn more about the Bible and Christianity. As part of welcoming students for the fall semester, SPC is hosting a buffet lunch for the students at UNM on Wednesday, August 14. ISI anticipates serving 50-100 incoming students. In addition, ISI needs many volunteers to helping incoming students for the fall semester. Please look at the attached link to find way to volunteer, and welcome new students to the USA and UNM!

A team from our church recently visited Nicaragua. In collaboration with Living Water International, we drilled a water well in the village of Las Anonas, near the town of Somotillo. Also, we gave hygiene, sanitation, and Bible story lessons, worshipped and worked with the community, played with the children, and were recipients of their enormous love and hospitality. We even appeared on a local radio station! It was a blessed week for all of us, team and community!
