Pope Leo XIV
What we know:
Pope Leo XIV’s path to the papacy has been shaped by global experience. Though born in Chicago in 1955, he spent decades in Peru as a missionary, then bishop, and later archbishop of Chiclayo. He became a Peruvian citizen in 2015, a move that reflected his deep connection to the region.
In 2023, Pope Francis brought Prevost to Rome to oversee the Church’s bishop appointments worldwide—a job central to the future of Catholic leadership. He was instrumental in implementing a landmark reform allowing women to vote on which candidates are recommended to the pope.
Francis elevated him to the highest rank of cardinal in early 2025, widely seen as a signal of deep trust—and now, perhaps, a papal endorsement fulfilled.
What's next:
As Pope Leo XIV begins his papacy, he inherits a Church in transition. His priorities remain to be seen, but his past suggests a commitment to thoughtful reform, a pastoral approach, and continued inclusion. For now, one thing is certain: the next chapter of the Catholic Church begins with a man from Chicago.

Pope Francis' health has remained stable over the past few days, and he carried out several work-related activities, according to the Holy See Press Office on Saturday evening.

"The Holy Father's clinical condition has remained stable in recent days, indicating a good response to therapy. A gradual, slight improvement has been observed," noted a statement.

"The Holy Father has not run a fever. Gas exchanges have improved, and blood chemistry and hematologic tests remain stable," it continued. "To ensure that these initial improvements continue in the coming days, the doctors have chosen to prudently maintain a guarded prognosis."

"This morning, after receiving the Eucharist, the Holy Father spent time in prayer in the chapel of his private apartment. In the afternoon, he alternated between rest and work activities."

Pope Francis was admitted to Rome's Gemelli Hospital on February 14 to receive treatment for bilateral pneumonia.

Annual White Mass

The Catholic Medical Association Guild from the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, the Sts. Cosmas and Damian Guild is pleased to announce the celebration of the Annual White Mass. The Mass honors all health care professionals. This Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop John C.
