Question: My next question is more on the other extreme. It has to do with who or what is God, and how do we know that we are One with Him? How do we know that we are on the right path? Is there a check in our spirit or something? Is there an agreement that we feel fine within ourselves that we know that this is the truth?
Maitreya: OK, well, when you reach a point that you know God exists but "you" do not, and you feel that Oneness once, you have no doubt that you are One. There is no separation. You will recognize that who sees, who does, who touches, who feels, who walks, who talks, is God. There is no separation between you and Him, and that recognition has no explanation.
As we have said many times, God cannot be explained. The people have been trying to explain God for thousands of years. There are books that have been written, there are many ways of explaining Him, but you cannot explain God. You have to experience God, and when you experience God, there is no doubt about who He is and what you are experiencing.
Also, I can only explain to you how it feels when you are with God, but when you experienced It, you will say, “Oh yeah, that is It! I got it.” Now, how to recognize if you are on the right Path, it has been revealed in the Scriptures on how to do that. God prophesies for thousands of years, for hundreds and thousands of years of the coming of a Revealer, a Prophet, a Messiah, a Teacher, whatever you want to call Him.
He is prophesied to come. And when He comes, He has no choice but to say the Word of God and reveal to you the Path to return to Godhead or that state before the chaos. Therefore, we can see that the present religions of the world right now were found with such a people, like Christ, Muhammad, Bab.
They come here with pure signs and explanation of God and His Words, and they reveal it to humanity. Again if you study our Teaching, you will see that all the revelations from the world’s Prophets have come to humanity and they have the truth for you. If you listen to their words and Scriptures, you have a good grip on the spiritual path and it will accelerate you to God.
You should not listen to anybody else, any guru, any teacher, any mullah, any rabbi, but listen to the Word of God which came through His Revealer. If you listen to those who put themselves up as the interpreter of the Word of God, then they might have their ego in the way and you will fall with them. Therefore, go to the Source.
For example, somebody came here and asked, “Which one should we follow, the Shia or Sunni?” I said, “Neither, go to the Koran.”
Or if someone asks, “Should I become a Methodist or a Baptist?” or whatever, and I will say, “No, go to the Bible. Go to the Word of God.”
“Should I become a Reformed Jew or an Orthodox Jew?” I say, “Go to the Old Testament.”
“Should I follow Shiva or Krishna or Vishnu?” I say, “None of them, go to the Upanishads and the Vedas, and follow the Word of God.”
So that is how you can have a great grip on the spirituality. And of course, there is the ultimate Revelation from God and it reveals and explains God in a greater degree, and if you go there, you will have greater truth. Maitreya (from Conversations with Maitreya 07-12-2003)
