Pentecost, the filling of the Holy Spirit.
Since the beginning the Spirit of God was present, and hovered above the waters (Gen 1:2). During the times of the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit was given by God (2 Chronicles 15:1) to complete His powerful work, but was also removed by God (1 Samuel 16:14). Joel then prophesied in Joel 2:28 saying "And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dreams dreams, your young men will see visions."
Later in the New Testament, Jesus came to complete the work here on Earth. As His time of departure approached, His disciples would be without Him. However, Jesus promised the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, to teach and remind them of all the things Jesus had said to them (John 14:26). Jesus' disciples were instructed to wait for the Holy Spirit to come upon them, so that He would empower them to spread the Word of Jesus Christ (Acts 1:8)
The importance of the Holy Spirit:
Without the Holy Spirit we can not enter into the kingdom of God. Jesus tells Nicodemus - a teacher in Israel, that no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit (John 3:5). The Holy Spirit is the seal in which God will recognize us as His children (Ephesians 1:13-14). Many people hear about Jesus and believe in God but are unfortunately without the Spirit. There are many indications of one with and without the Holy Spirit. If you have said the salvation prayer but your life produces no fruit or change, contact Acacia Worship Center and one of our members will be glad to lead you to Jesus the wholehearted way.
