Dear Diocese of the Rio Grande,
It gives me great joy to announce that I have called the Rev’d Jean Pierre Arrossa as Canon for Finance in the Diocese of the Rio Grande.
We initially imagined calling a lay person to the work as Financial Administrator in the position formerly held by Mandi Mendoza, and we were blessed with many highly-qualified candidates. However, when I read JP’s application, and subsequently conducted interviews online and in person, I realized the diocese faced a choice. In choosing to expand the position from a 9-5 administrative position to Canon for Finance, we are acknowledging that JP, as a fully qualified financial professional, brings all the necessary administrative experience and skills we could ask for, but also, as a priest of the church, he will add tremendous value to the bishop’s staff and expand our capacity to help congregations thrive throughout the diocese. JP already has the trust of the diocese, having served faithfully as our Treasurer for five years now.
In a few weeks, when JP begins his work as our Canon for Finance, he will, of course, resign as Diocesan Treasurer. In accordance with the Diocesan Canons (Canon 9.5(a)), I have appointed a Treasurer to serve until our next Diocesan Convention. When the Standing Committee has had a chance to meet to consider approving that appointment, I will announce it. I am also suggesting two Assistant Treasurers for the Standing Committee to consider appointing.
I am grateful to JP for discerning this call with us and I look forward to continuing our work together. I am also grateful to the people of St. Michael and All Angels, in advance, for what I know will be a grace-filled transition as they begin working with him not as their parish priest, but as their Canon for Finance.
May God continue to bless the Diocese of the Rio Grande as we continue to grow together in our faith, knowledge, and service of Jesus Christ.
Faithfully,
The Rt Rev’d Michael B Hunn
