Second Presbyterian Church Albuquerque

Second Presbyterian Church Albuquerque Worship services are 10:30 AM every Sunday. Visit our Website: http://secondpresabq.org The congregation is housed in a state and national historical landmark.

Established in 1889 at the confluence of the efforts of the Martin family, James Menaul, and First Presbyterian Church, and the arrival of Epifano Arreola, a man incarcerated in Mexico City who converted to Protestantism and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Today, the richness of Second Presbyterian Church is reflected in many ways. The worship services are planned around the liturgical year, and

the sermons are based on the lectionary. The liturgy is in both English and Spanish, and hymns are sung in both English and Spanish using the Presbyterian Hymnal and El Himnario.

Wednesday, May 13, at 6:30 p.m., the Presbytery of Santa Fe is invited to gather at Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church for A Service of Justice and Hope. At this time in our country’s history, and in the context of our current political realities, the church of Jesus Christ serves as the radiant light that creates the blueprints for a new world,
transforming strangers into neighbors who share a horizon of hope,
shaping every sunbeam into a beacon of truth,
bending every ray toward human dignity,
and illuminating a future wide enough for every life to flourish.
Please join us for a time of worship to be led by Rev. Dr. Rob Woodruff, as we seek to offer to the presbytery and to the world a place of welcome and inclusion where we are inspired and encouraged to persevere in shining God’s light and to embody the truths and teachings of Jesus Christ for the good of all humanity. It will be a blessing to worship with one another.

On Wednesday, March 11, at 5:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, in Santa Fe,
individuals across the presbytery are invited to worship together
and share the gift of fellowship and solidarity at “A Service of Justice and Hope.”
As we seek to navigate the current political landscape in our nation,
we recognize that the world is full of cold places that need to be warmed by hope,
and, as the people of God, we are called to serve as the body of Christ walking toward the light of morning,
imagining a country where no one is disposable,
tucking kindnesses into corners where no one thought to look,
and sharing the simple truth that our well-being is tied to one another.
The Santa Fe Community will be invited to attend the service through Santa Fe’s Interfaith Leadership Alliance and the Faith Coalition,
and some faith leaders may participate in the service.
Everyone is invited to worship with us as together we comprise the instruments of God who shape the architecture of a new dawn.
Please join us at First Presbyterian Church, in Santa Fe, on Wednesday, March 11, at 5:30 p.m.

Today, take a moment to pray for a place in the world you have no connections to. We are a global community, loved by God each and every one of us. Who are you praying for today?

The year is 1971, and the Rev. Jesse Jackson has just been arrested. Jackson, serving as national director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference's Operation Breadbasket, is seen offering a clenched fist salute from a police van after he and 11 other clergymen were arrested at the national offices of the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company (A&P).

This single image captures more than an arrest. It reflects the Rev. Jesse Jackson's commitment to following in Christ's footsteps by advocating for those who have been pushed to the margins. Rev. Jackson's witness constantly reminded us that the church should be on the frontlines of the justice movement, working to bring about God's vision of a just and equitable world.

The PC(USA) mourns the loss of the Rev. Jesse Jackson, and we vow to remain committed to the work he stood for: justice, equity, and inclusion for all God's children.
