Church of the Good Shepherd, UCC

Church of the Good Shepherd, UCC We are a progressive, intergenerational, LGBTQ-friendly church, affiliated with the United Church of Christ, located in the NE Heights in Albuquerque, NM.

Church of the Good Shepherd UCC is a progressive, diverse community of faith, friendship and service. In-Person Worship now at 1030 am. Masks are required. We are a friendly church. Lots of congregations say that. We actually live it. Whether it’s a first-time visitor or someone whose been attending for decades, we try to welcome each person genuinely. Our goal is nothing short of loving, honest r

elationships with God and one another. We are Open and Affirming of Le***an, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people, their families and their friends. We celebrate their love, lives, and ministries both in our church and the world. We are intentionally anti-racist, seeking justice and equality for all people, everywhere. We work to eliminate racism and prejudice in ourselves and to honor and celebrate the different racial identities and backgrounds in our church family. We are inter-generational, with a variety of programs and activities for children, youth, and adults. We’re a safe church. We have policies and practices to assure that every child and adult is safe from abuse of any kind at all times. We are an active, service-oriented church. We gather food, serve meals, shelter homeless families, provide resources and supplies for under-funded school children, and more. We don’t all believe the same things – and we celebrate that! Each of us is on a journey of faith, seeking to serve God and walk in the ways of Jesus the Christ as best we can. Our lives lead us down different paths. As a community, we strive to love and support one another along the way.

What's new at COGS? This coming Sunday, June 14th, the Contemporary Theology (9:30AM) will be doing a bit of constructive theology creating theological narratives, using the UCC Southwest Conference Annual Meeting workshop “Telling God’s Story at the Threshold” by Bishop Deborah Hutterer.*

This kind of narrative invites us to pay attention to God’s activity in the present. These are the prompts Bishop Hutterer used to frame narratives about God’s presence in times of change.

Preliminary question – What threshold am I as an individual or we as a church facing?

What brought us to this threshold?

Even here we see . . . . . .

God may be . . . . . . . .

Sunday our plan is to both share and create narratives based on these prompts and see what insights emerge.

All are welcome to join us. Contemporary Theology Group meets in person at COGS and is also available virtually in our Zoom room. Link to join the Zoom call is on our website's homepage, https://ucccogs.org

*The Rev. Deborah K. Hutterer is bishop of the Grand Canyon Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), serving Arizona, southern Nevada, Utah, and the Navajo Nation. First elected in 2018 and re-elected in 2024, she provides spiritual and administrative leadership to congregations and rostered ministers, and is a trusted voice in matters of mission, justice, and church vitality.
