Pope Leo XIV has appointed The Most Reverend Edward M. Lohse as a member of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura.

“I am humbled and honored to be asked to serve as a member of the Apostolic Signatura, and I am grateful for the opportunity to assist the Holy See in this capacity,” said Bishop Lohse who earned both a license and doctorate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He also was an adjunct faculty member of the Pontifical North American College, Vatican City from 2011-2015. Bishop Lohse retains his current assignments as Bishop of the Diocese of Kalamazoo, Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Steubenville and as a member of the Dicastery for the Clergy.

The Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura is composed of Cardinals, Bishops and priests appointed by the Roman Pontiff for a term of five years. It is headed by the Cardinal Prefect.

On September 24, 2026, the Church will celebrate the Beatification of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen in St. Louis, MO. Before the Mass begins, tens of thousands will gather to pray the World Mission Rosary.

The World Mission Rosary was designed by Archbishop Sheen 75 years ago, in 1951, at the beginning of his tenure as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies. It was a concrete way to help everyone pray to Our Lady, Queen of Apostles, for the success of the Church’s missionary efforts across the world. Each decade of the World Mission Rosary represents a different area of the world where missionaries continue to share the Good News of Jesus.
More than 75,000 rosaries are needed for the beatification. The Pontifical Missions Society is requesting help from Catholics around the country--whether you make 100 or 1,000, every rosary becomes part of something larger. Each one will be blessed before the Beatification.

The deadline for sending in Rosaries to be blessed is September 15, 2026. Please visit the webpage below to learn more about this initiative, where to buy supplies and how to participate in making World Mission Rosaries for the beatification.

In 'Magnifica Humanitas,' Pope Leo XIV grounds his teaching in our firm belief that each and every one of us is sacred, made in God’s image, and possesses intrinsic dignity, Archbishop Weisenburger writes.
