Synopsis for women's Bible Study

A God Who Makes Promises

Tuesdays @ 10 am beginning September 12, 2023
Grace Fellowship Church
925 West Main Street; Albertville, AL 35950

Please join us for a study considering the wonder of a God who makes and keeps promises to His people. We will begin the Fall semester focusing on the “big” promises of God revealed in His covenants throughout redemptive history. In the Spring we will transition to individual promises and learn how to apply those promises to our lives. We will explore how to use God’s Promises in times of affliction, temptation, our fight with sin, and our pursuit of holy living.

My primary source for the Fall semester will be “The Promises of God” by RC Sproul. In the Spring we will use “Living by God’s Promises” by Beeke and LaBelle

Mary Shea Gaston will once again be leading the Fall 2021 women’s community bible study at Grace Fellowship Church. We will meet on Tuesdays at 10 am. Classes will begin Tuesday, September 14.

Come and be encouraged as we study Ezra, Nehemiah, Haggai, and Malachi. We live in a world which is hostile to the church and its Gospel. The history of Ezra and Nehemiah teaches us that “there is nothing new under the sun.” These books help us trust God’s sovereign rule even when the church and believers seem weak, insignificant, even beaten.

No additional resources other than scripture are required for this study, however several of you have asked for a book to use on your own. A nice complement to this class would be Kay Arthur’s “Overcoming Fear and Discouragement”. While we will not be following this book as an outline, Mary Shea has leaned on it heavily in her notes. Here is a link for purchase if desired: Overcoming Fear and Discouragement: Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther (The New Inductive Study Series): Arthur, Kay, Lawson, David, Vereen, Bob: 9780736908108: Amazon.com: Books)

There isn’t one primary book source, instead multiple commentaries on Ezra, Nehemiah, Haggai, and Malachi will be used. A list of the names of those references for your further study will be provided to those who ask for one.

As COVID resurges we desire to protect our more vulnerable sisters who would like to attend in person. To that end, the following safety precautions will be implemented:

• We will be meeting in the sanctuary to allow social distancing.
• Mask will be required until seated at least two chairs away from other attendees.
• We will not be serving refreshments this semester.

Childcare will be provided by reservation. Children ages 0-3 are welcome. Do not forget to call Angela Thornton at 256-891-0924 by Monday at noon (the day before a session) to reserve a nursery spot.

Please be on the lookout for a postcard invitation to this study arriving next week. Put it on your fridge as a reminder to attend and ask a friend! If you have anyone you would like us to send an invitation to, please reply to this email with their name and address.

My name is Mary Shea Gaston and I will be leading the Fall 2020 women’s community bible study at Grace Fellowship Church.

With the world in turmoil around us I am thankful to have time to rest in God’s word. This semester we will study the character of our only sure hope – the LORD. God has graciously and beautifully revealed Himself through his names in scripture. When we truly understand God’s character we can relax and have peace knowing He can be trusted even in the most perilous times.

No additional resources other than scripture are necessary for this study. I will be using the following references (which are readily available online) if you would like to purchase for additional study:

Names of God (by Nathan Stone)
Names of God (by Andrew Jukes)
Lord, I Want To Know You, (by Kay Arthur)

To protect our more vulnerable sisters who would like to attend in person, the following safety precautions will be implemented:
We will be meeting in the sanctuary to allow social distancing.
Mask will be required until seated at least two chairs away from other attendees.
We will not be serving refreshments this semester.

Childcare will be provided by reservation only this year. Children ages 0-3 are welcome. Do not forget to call Angela Thorton at 256-891-0924 by Monday at noon (the day before a session) to reserve a nursery spot.

It's yet another rainy Monday! Ugh. Hoping you all are staying dry and warm on this wet, dreary day. Tomorrow in Bible study we will see the author change course somewhat. After spending ten and a half chapters engaged in theological exposition, he now turns to application: how now should we live in light of these truths? He begins with an exhortation to draw near but then offers a sober warning. Some good stuff ahead for us! Hope to see you tomorrow! Lisa

Good (rainy, dreary) Monday afternoon, friends! Hope you are all staying dry :) Tomorrow in Bible study we will be in Heb. 10:1-18. The author of Hebrews wraps up his exploration of the superiority of Christ in this chapter and will then turn to the application of these glorious truths in the final chapters of the letter. We will discuss the Incarnation of Christ and why it is crucial to the sufficiency of Christ's work on our behalf. I hope to see you tomorrow!

02/17/2020

Good morning, Bible study friends! Tomorrow we will discuss Heb. 9:15-18. We will see many familiar themes repeated once again as the author continues to assert the superiority of Jesus' sacrifice. It is appointed for us all to die and after that comes judgment; where then is our hope and our security? It is in the once-for-all sacrifice of Christ who put away sin forever, glory to God! See you tomorrow!

02/10/2020

Rainy days and Mondays, am I right?? Praying for energy and enthusiasm for Bible study despite the gloomy, wet weather! Tomorrow we will be in Heb. 9:1-14. The author of Hebrews turns to the physical aspects of the tabernacle itself, showing Jesus's sacrifice as superior, concluding that the blood of Christ is "able to purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God"--what good news! I hope to see you tomorrow!

02/03/2020

Happy Monday morning, friends! I don't know about you, but I am thanking God for the sunshine today! Tomorrow in our study of Hebrews we will discuss chapter 8. In this chapter, the author continues his assertion of the superiority of Jesus, declaring that this high priest is "seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven." His ministry is "much more excellent" and we will explore why! Hope to see you tomorrow!

01/27/2020

It was good to be back in Bible study with you last week! We jumped right in and wrestled with the deep theological truth that Jesus is a priest after the order of Melchizedek and what that means to us. Tomorrow we continue in that same theme as we discuss Heb. 7:18-28. The author of Hebrews will continue to explore his assertion of Jesus' superiority. It is indeed fitting that we have such a high priest! (v. 26) See you tomorrow!

01/20/2020

We resume our study of Hebrews tomorrow! We will pick up where we left off, discussing Heb. 7:1-17 and the rather mysterious character Melchizedek and what he has to teach us about Jesus and the gospel and our salvation. I'm looking forward to seeing you all!
