Last Sunday, we gathered as a church family to celebrate a beautiful milestone in the life of Albert Lea United Methodist Church as we officially welcomed Kossi Gilles ALOVOR and Madje Akonou Afoudji into membership, along with their daughter, Akou Gaëlle Alovor.

We give thanks to God for leading this wonderful family to our congregation and for the privilege of walking alongside them in faith. We now look forward with joy to celebrating Gaëlle’s baptism on August 16.

A special thank you to our caring Worship Committee for hosting a wonderful reception and to our entire church family for showing the love of Christ in such meaningful ways. Your warmth, generosity, and genuine welcome are a beautiful witness to what it means to be the Body of Christ.

At Albert Lea United Methodist Church, welcoming new members is more than a ceremony—it is the beginning of a shared journey of faith. We are committed to loving, encouraging, and discipling one another so that together we may grow as followers of Jesus Christ.

Welcome home, Kossi, Madje, and Gaëlle. May you always know that you are deeply loved, warmly welcomed, and an important part of this church family.

What a beautiful evening at Albert Lea United Methodist Church!

Tonight, our church family and neighbors gathered around one table as we celebrated an African Dinner through our monthly PrimeTimers fellowship. The Fireside Room was filled with more than 50 people, including 10 African families, sharing laughter, stories, faith, and delicious food.

My wife, Cynthia Achieng, and I were honored to prepare this meal together, with our two daughters patiently enduring hours of their parents’ busy cooking! It was a joy to share a taste of Africa with our community through dishes including Chapati, Sukuma, Ugali, Pilau, White Rice, Roasted and Fried Goat Meat, Beef Stew, Mandazi, African Chai (with milk and black tea), soft drinks, fresh fruits, and more.

A special thank you to Dave Beaty, our Lay Leader, for preparing refreshing hibiscus tea, and to the Parsons for the delicious coconut cake that perfectly completed the meal.

This evening was about much more than food. It was a living reminder that God’s table is big enough for everyone. Different cultures, different backgrounds, one family in Christ. Moments like these make our church and our Albert Lea community stronger, richer, and more welcoming.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the PrimeTimers organizers and volunteers, whose dedication made this wonderful evening possible.

PrimeTimers, we’ll see you next on August 9 for the Pelican Breeze II Boat Cruise!

What a joyful beginning to Day One of the Minnesota Annual Conference at River’s Edge Convention Center in St. Cloud!

It has been a blessing to gather with clergy and laity from across Minnesota for worship, fellowship, holy conferencing, and a shared commitment to the mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

We are grateful for the leadership of Bishop Lanette Plambeck as she presides over this year’s conference. The Spirit is moving among us as we celebrate God’s faithfulness, discern God’s future, and strengthen our connection as The United Methodist Church.

I invite our Albert Lea United Methodist Church family and friends to join us online tomorrow at 9:10 a.m. for the Annual Conference worship service. During the service, our youngest daughter, Ayla Belle, will be baptized. Cynthia and I are deeply grateful to our Albert Lea UMC family for your love, prayers, support, and encouragement as we raise our family in faith.
