BUT, have you seen it at night?

Loving how this looks and how great it all came
together!

Big thanks to Jackie Flowers, Chris Ballinger and Mark New!

A House for a Little One

Nestled within our cemetery lies a touching and unique tribute — a small house built over the grave of a child.
Six year old Gilbert Reed Bertram lost a battle with Measles and Pneumonia in 1926. The six year old son to John Elvis and Zona (Beaty) Bertram.
This heartfelt memorial stands as a symbol of love, protection, and remembrance. It’s one of the many stories that make our cemetery unique and historical.

As we close in on Christmas and the end of another year, we’re so grateful to have a community of families like we do.

Year after year, you give your dollars to the cemetery fund, your creativity to the flowers on our loved one’s final resting places and your time to do both.

We are so proud to share with all of you something we’ve been working on. This project is not finished. Additional inscriptions will be added to the sign, a new flag pole has been purchased and hopefully lighting and some landscaping to round this space out.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We look forward to seeing you Memorial Day weekend.

Thank you! 🇺🇸

Although we appreciate the thank yous, Memorial Day is meant to be focused on our Brothers and Sisters that never made it home. Honor them and remember their names so that they may never be forgotten.

Irwin cemetery, nestled in the southern part of Albany, Kentucky, is rich with historical figures and history. Today we are posting about Reuben Wood. Reuben Wood’s grave is shown here. He was killed by Champ Ferguson, the notorious Confederate guerrilla. Reuben’s death is thought to be the first Clinton county resident killed by Ferguson. The story goes that Wood had been to the Union Camp in Garrard County (Camp Dick Robinson). He likely hadn’t but he may have furnished some horses or at least had expressed Union sympathies.

He was killed at his house, which was near a wet weather spring between what is now close to the John Poore heirs property (Hwy 969) and Hayes Creek.

Champ Ferguson lived closer to Irwin Cemetery, across the road from the Billy K and Geneva Smith property.

Follow our page for more history and neat facts about our cemetery. Especially as we near Memorial Day.
