First Presbyterian Church of Albany

First Presbyterian Church of Albany First Pres is a welcoming, inclusive congregation. Join us for worship Sundays at 10:30 a.m. First Presbyterian has a long history in the city of Albany.

We are: progressive in our theology and on social issues, traditional in worship. Established in 1763, First Presbyterian has been an active leader in the community, ministering to the needs of people both in the neighborhood and around the world. We are a congregation that works for peace and justice in our society. Our Mission Statement defines First Presbyterian as an inclusive church that "wel

comes persons of differing abilities, of all economic and ethnic groups, of any sexual orientation, to share with us the joy, the power, the challenge of God's good news in Jesus Christ." Worship is central to the life of our congregation, providing inner reinforcement as it prepares us to go out into the world to serve. Please check out our Worship page on our website for service times. You will find more about First Presbyterian Church and its programs of Christian Education for children and adults, our music ministry, and spiritual development groups as you move around our website. We are located at the corner of State and Willett streets on the edge of Washington Park in downtown Albany. We invite you to visit us and consider joining our community of faith - participating in the work that our Lord has given us.

Curious about what Presbyterians say about church and state, and why? We have social witness policy for that, rooted in biblical and theological foundations. Enjoy this summary and excerpt from the 1988 policy document, "God Alone is Lord of the Conscience," that speaks to contemporary questions of church and state at the historic 250th anniversary of the United States of America. The largest Presbyterian denomination in the United States this week voted 454-15 to recognize Israel’s war on Gaza as a genocide. The measure, passed by the general assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A), also calls on church members to boycott Israeli products and to lobby Congress for an arms embargo against Israel.

The general assembly also voted unanimously to divest from Palantir Technologies and General Electric Aerospace over their ties to Israel's military and intelligence services.

Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) has over 1 million active members.
