And For Your Shabbat Table:
This week, a famous teacher named Rabbi Hillel asked three questions that Jews have been thinking about for thousands of years:

If I am not for myself, who will be for me? But if I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?

Hillel is teaching us something important: we need to take care of ourselves AND take care of others. Both things matter. Neither one is enough on its own.

This week we also read from the Torah portion Nasso, which tells us nasso et rosh, to "lift up the head" of every person. Every single person deserves to be seen and counted. And every single person is also part of something bigger than themselves.

Question to discuss around the Shabbat table:
Think of a time when you had to balance taking care of yourself and taking care of someone else at the same time. What did you do? Was it hard? What would you do differently now?

For younger children: What is one way you took care of yourself this week, and one way you took care of someone else?

More from Rabbi Weitzman!

Around the Shabbat Table - Family Friendly Conversations about the Torah Portion

On Shavuot, we remember that Torah came to the entire Jewish people standing together at Sinai. Every voice present, every soul included. Confirmation continues that tradition by inviting our young people to publicly affirm their place within Jewish life and community.

Questions for your Shabbat table:
- What does it mean to "receive Torah" in our own lives today?
- When have you felt that your voice truly mattered in a community?
- What responsibility do we have to help others feel included, welcomed, and valued?
- If you stood at Sinai today, what question would you want to ask?

You might also take a moment to share a teacher, mentor, or experience that helped shape your own Jewish journey and how we can continue passing those traditions and values from generation to generation.

Tomorrow! 5:00 pm! CBE & Me: Shavuot designed for children ages 0-5 and the grown-ups who love them!

Shavuot is the "birthday" of the Torah, and we’re celebrating with music, movement, and a very special hands-on tradition. We’ll start with social time and holiday tunes on the guitar, followed by a story about the wonders of Mount Sinai.

Our main event is a "Sweet Torah" Scribe Workshop. Just like a real Sofer (scribe), children will create their very own tangible Torah scrolls to take home.

Of course, there will also be some amazing snacks to nosh on for both grown-ups and children.

Come celebrate the gift of the Torah and the joy of community!
