As we pray for health care workers, scientists and essential workers on the front line of the COVID crisis, please also remember the maritime workers who risk so much to deliver essential goods to our ports!

Albany Maritime Ministry (AMM) welcomes merchant marines, fishermen, tug and barge crews and crews on non-commercial vessels who dock along the Hudson River in the Capital District of upstate New York.

AMM is a ministry of the Capital Area Council of Churches. We work closely with regional churches, businesses, and city, state and federal agencies.

DID YOU KNOW? Most of the seafarers we meet have been at sea for many months. They face numerous challenges, including separation from family, isolation, hard labor, piracy, dangerous weather and human rights violations. We attempt to offer relief by:

- Addressing their spiritual, family and material needs.
- Advocating for their rights.
- Collaborating with related agencies, worldwide.
- Offering special programs and services, such as Christmas at Sea.
- Welcoming them on their ship when they cannot come ashore.

Albany Maritime Ministry is an ecumenical group of volunteers who minister to the spiritual, family and practical needs of seafarers in the Albany Capital District. We currently serve about 3,000 seafarers on 100 vessels every year. These numbers are expected to grow as aggressive economic efforts seek to expand containerized volume in the Port of Albany.
