Hello, St. Barnabas community! While it has been said that our parish will be closing, in the ascension of Jesus, we are reminded that our mission to be witnesses of Christ remains the same. Taken from Fr. Mario's homily last Sunday:
"...Jesus ascended because His work was changing. A new work was beginning. Then, and now as well, we see that with our newly confirmed candidates, our teens, and with us who have received the Holy Spirit. The work of the church is not over. We could say that the church is needed now more than ever. It just may not need as many buildings as it needed before. But the church isn't a building. The church is the community of those who have been called out of the world by Christ to be connected to him and then sent by him on a mission. That is the church, and that is you. No matter what building we come to on Sunday, we are the church.
That's what our cantors say before we begin mass, Frank and Neale. They say, "Good morning, Church!" That's you. And so I just want to conclude by saying that I'm so proud of you, and the contributions that you have made to the church. And I am hopeful in this season that may be sad or may be uncertainty and may be confusion. I am hopeful and I am excited to see what you will do in the future because Jesus told us, I am always with you."
