From Nan Scarbrough (member of Westwood Baptist Church, Westwood Weekday Work Team, and a part of our Weekday family):

Remember, Shine your light, For Jesus

MATTHEW 5:16
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16

it becomes clear that our actions, or good deeds, are an essential way to shine our light. We often find ourselves surrounded by challenges, but each good deed we perform brings hope and encouragement to those around us. When we extend kindness, help others, or simply smile at someone, we create an atmosphere that reflects God’s love. Shining our light through good deeds doesn’t just uplift others; it also strengthens our relationship with God. By engaging in acts of kindness, we exemplify the teachings of Jesus, inspiring others to do the same. Let’s continue to commit ourselves to shine brightly !!

When your light shines, it has the power to bring hope, truth, and life to a world that desperately needs it.

Remember- Shine Your Light for Jesus

I see and hear lots of teachers and staff “Shining their lights” here in the hallways of Westwood Weekday.

There is nothing like a Christian Weekday Program. This is your mission field for everyone who walks through the doors. It is a peaceful, happy, loving place, safe place for parents and especially the children. A breath of fresh air for those who walk in from this broken fallen - fast paced world we live in.

I hear things like “I will be praying for you or your child”. Good morning, How are you, it’s going to be a fun day. Laughter, giggles, singing, saying or singing prayers over lunch plus the music days, worship/chapel days.

I started bringing my granddaughter Eloise here 6 years ago. At that time I was taking soul care of my Mom and great aunt, my job of 40 years - SF started mergers and closed our big office- I was forced to retire earlier than I had planned, I was caring for my first grandchild since her daycare didn’t work out. My daughter found Westwood for a mother’s day out for me since I was taking my Mom & Aunt to lots of doctors appointments.

I was a “hot mess” coming in here to drop Eloise off. I was in survival mode, tired, stressed, broken from my life events.

Her first teacher, church Nana- Kathy, invited me to come to church here. My church was struggling during this time but I didn’t have time to attend with my Mom living with me since her brain trauma accident. Ms Kathy kept inviting me and putting me on prayer list. Next year’s teacher, Ms Amy gave me a card about Ladies Bible Study on Wednesday mornings. That was my life saver. I started attending for an hour while Eloise was in school. 2020-2021 my mom & aunt passed quickly and I started coming to worship, finally joined and got into small group, started volunteering for Westwood local missions…..the rest is history.

So how you talk with parents, how you love the children & make it fun everyday…..Shining Your Light matters on your mission field

Remember “Shine Your Light” in your own way!! Make a difference for all who walk in the doors

Thank you for another great year at Westwood Weekday!!! It just gets better every year…..Now I bring Lucas and will have 3 more years of coming here weekly during the school year

Let us pray

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this group of teachers and staff. They are the “Sunshine” for students and parents and grandparents.

Thank you for setting the example of love and patience.

Bless them with strength to finish out this school year in the coming weeks with joy. Help them continue to Shine their light as they complete all the task.

These things we ask in your name
Amen

James Spann came to visit our preschool today. He gave a great presentation about weather, and he commented on how well behaved our preschoolers were. We are so thankful he shared his knowledge and humor with us. We gave him a basket full of goodies all made locally or in Alabama. I forgot to get a picture, but thank you to Cookie Loo for amazing cookies, and Medders Family Farm & Central Alabama Honey for their generous donations to the basket. Watch for our kiddos tomorrow at 4 am & 5 pm on ABC33/40.

Join us tonight at Westwood for Journey to the Cross! There will be food, fellowship, crafts, and so much more!
