Goodyear Heights Community Church We are an independent, fundamental, Bible teaching church. We offer a Jr. Church program for children starting at age 4. Also, we offer a nursery. with Jr.

We are a bible believing church. Our Church service begins at 10:40 a.m. Church at the same time. We hold a VBS program every summer. The young people are involved with the Christmas programs and they have a children's choir.

Never cast out…
Young children never consider the security they have in a loving family. As we watch the pictures of the nations that are at war with each other our hearts can’t help but go out to those whose entire home has been destroyed for no reason that they had caused. Women with their children alone because their husband was killed and they have no place to go and no way to care for their children or themselves as well as no place to live. We see families torn apart because one person places their trust in Jesus Christ and the family and entire village turns against them often violently.

The devastation that incarceration brings to a family especially to the young children is immeasurable. Children growing up basically on their own because the love that should have been theirs within the family has been destroyed and replaced with the consequences of evil that surrounds us. As I reflect back on the childhood that I had many years ago it was the unconditional love of my parents and grandparents that constantly confirmed that I was loved and would always be a part of the family.

John 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

Even though the love that I experienced within my family and now with my own family is great, it cannot compare to the love that God has for His children through Jesus Christ. The security of knowing that the sin debt that I owe, which I can never pay on my own, has been paid for me by Jesus simply because of His love for me personally is a security that we can only receive and trust. Life on this earth can be very harsh at times but the unconditional love that comes from our heavenly Father through Jesus Christ is like a warm blanket wrapped around us on a very cold day. Have you placed your trust in the One who gives that great love, and if so are you resting in it every moment of every day regardless of the circumstances of life?

A strong tower…
We have all seen pictures of medieval castles around the world with their high reaching towers that rise from the ground is splendor. Often the flag of the family that occupies it will be flown from its heights. While towers are a magnificent statement of power and strength, they also serve a significant purpose in protecting the inhabitants of the castle. The tower was usually very strongly built so that it was almost impenetrable by cannonballs. Its foundation was dug deep so no intruder could dig under it to gain access or try to blow it up. Its height was so tall that scaling it was almost impossible with the equipment available in that era. The walls were thickly constructed so they were resistant to enemy aggression. Inside the tower was a place of safety while the battle raged on outside. Enough provision could be stored inside of it to feed and supply the inhabitants for many days.

When an attack came from outside of the castle the tower was the place of safety while the battle raged on the outside. It was the responsibility of the soldiers to be on the walls and at the gates protecting the castle while the owner of the castle and his family were safely sheltered inside the tower. Should the enemy manage to break through the tower doors there were soldiers stationed with the family to give them an added protection.

Proverbs 18:10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

Just as the family of the castle ran into the tower for their protection so do we run into the name of the Lord for our safety from the enemy of God. Jesus is our “strong tower” and has secured our safety from the enemy when we abide in Him. At the first sign of a battle beginning to take place the family was rushed into the tower for safety. We likewise must run into the safety of Jesus, our strong tower, at the first sign of trouble, or better yet just dwell there in the safety of His presence.

I don’t know…
Isn’t it frustrating when you ask someone for directions and they say, “I don’t know” and walk away? It is fairly apparent that you are lost and cannot find your destination which means everything to you at that moment, and the person you ask just brushes you off without even trying to find someone to help you. It becomes even more frustrating when you ask several people the same question and basically get the same answer. How are you to proceed? Are you going the right direction or in the totally opposite direction? I think most people don’t want to be bothered and they assume that everyone has a GPS to rely upon. However, if you happen to be in a very large commercial building such as a hospital your GPS will not do you much good. That is where it gets really annoying when people who work in the building don’t take the time or courtesy to help you.

It is such a relief to find someone who is not only willing to give you directions but to take you to your destination. I had been called to visit a person in our church late one evening in a very large hospital that I had never been inside before. My GPS got me to the building but from there I was on my own. I asked several people at the various information desks and each one gave me directions that seemed totally impossible to remember, especially since it was late and I was very tired. After finding several different ways that you cannot get to the room I was wanting, a very kind cleaning lady must have seen my confusion and said she would take me there which she did. What a relief to know I would not be spending my entire night wandering the hallways aimlessly! Finding my way back out is another story for another time.

Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

Aren’t you glad that God never gives you the brush off when you need His help? How comforting to know that He not only knows the way forward to reach the destination, but He also is willing to share that priceless information with you upon your asking. But then God doesn’t just tell you the way, but He also volunteers to go with you to make sure you arrive safely at the right place at the right time. Things that we often do not even know to ask God about are things that He already knows and is willing to share with you personally, hand in hand so to speak. Put your trust and confidence in Him and don’t try to second guess Him because He really does know great and mighty things which you do not know.

Where is the enemy? I can’t see him…
A child’s life is an amazing thing because they have not yet established what is truth and what isn’t. I mentioned in a previous devotional that we lived in an old house as we were growing up and it made many different sounds as the heat of the day came and went. One sound that always seemed to scare me was the attic steps creaking all on their own. The attic door was just around the corner from my bedroom door which was not very comforting. In my childish imagination the sound was exactly the same sound I made when I went up those steps into the attic. In my reasoning I knew there was someone or something coming down in the middle of the night.

To top it off my dad would play it to the hilt by telling us that there were people who lived in the attic who met an untimely death and their ghosts were still up there wanting to get out. He called them the “Ollie’s” which really gave a personal touch to the story. However, in all of my years in that house I never once saw any firm indication that what I was hearing was anything more than an old house creaking regardless of what my mind was telling me as a child.

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

We do however have an enemy that though unseen is very real. Our enemy is the enemy of God whose name is Satan. While we cannot physically see him or his demon helpers we know they exist because of all the chaos and evil in the world that they cause. It was Satan who fell to the sin of pride in rebelling against God which plunged the entire human race into sin. Every person who has been born since Adam has that same sin nature within them which is what Satan uses to tempt man with. The enemy is very real. The battle is very real and never stops even though it has been won by Jesus Christ. The enemy’s tactics are not to scare us but to entice us through lies that sound so good. If we don’t know the truth of God's Word, how will we know the lies of the enemy when he comes? Even though I can’t physically see the enemy I know God's Word is the weapon that will defeat him. How much time have you spent in God's Word getting your weapon sharpened today?

My house…my rules…
Have you ever heard that statement or possibly said it yourself to those who occupy your house? It is something that is expected when you enter into another person’s home. You certainly don’t enter without first making sure that you are not dragging in dirt on your shoes through carelessness. You don’t just throw your coat on the floor, and you don’t sit until you are asked to sit. You never go to the kitchen cupboards and get out a coffee cup and begin to make yourself a cup of coffee without the owner’s permission.

We often encounter push back on our rules in our house from younger members who live there also. While this is a part of growing up and the beginning of their own independence, it can be very difficult to keep order with the things you know are for their benefit, such as a time to be home and who is invited to visit them at the house.

Galatians 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

God's Word teaches us this same principle as it applies to our living in the Spirit. When we live in the Spirit we dwell in His presence, we seek shelter in His safety, we get our spiritual nourishment from Him, and the daily moment by moment guidance we desperately need comes from Him. The Holy Spirit takes care of us therefore we should walk according to His teaching as we are out in the world. We are not to be one thing when we are sitting quietly in His presence and then another when we are interacting with those around us. If we yield to the Holy Spirit for our internal spiritual growth, then we should yield to His leadership in all things regardless of the circumstances.

Childish things…
Childhood can be a wonderful time, or it can be a time of hardship. My childhood was a time of being a part of a very loving family that shared marvellous things with me. My dad had a work bench in our basement, and I can remember him teaching me how to pound a nail into a piece of wood, and as the years went by teaching me how to build things. I remember my grandpa teaching me how to design things and also how to build them. I remember my mom teaching me how to make pies and cookies as well as the discipline not to eat them before it was time.

We had a family who lived in the neighborhood that the dad was an alcoholic and abused not only his wife but his son. I spent time with the son who was a little bit older than me and the things he shared were not the things that I saw as a normal loving family. There was the attitude of hatred and resentment between them and when the dad was gone from the house to work there seemed to be a joy that he was gone. It was a sad thing to watch as their lives unfolded.

1 Corinthians 13:11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

While my childhood has many fond memories for me, and my friend’s has bitter memories, we must both “put away childish things” if we are to become the servants of God that we are intended to be. We cannot live in the past regardless of what it may have looked like, good or bad. One of the greatest deceits of Satan in our lives is to think that what has been in our past is able to control us and define us today. We can do absolutely nothing to alter one moment of our past, even if that “past” was just an hour ago. When we allow the things of our past to control our thoughts and actions today it is only because we are dwelling on them. Many have suffered under the control of addictions in their lifetime, but God has released them from it. To allow that crippling mindset to have any amount of control in the present is to deny the freedom God has provided through Jesus Christ. Put away the things of the past and reach for the things God has given you today. Someone once said, “Don’t look back, we aren’t going that way.”

Who can fix it…?
When something is broken, we take it to the one who can fix it. When our car doesn’t function the way that it is supposed to, we take it to the trusty mechanic to solve the problem. When something goes wrong in our house, we call the professional to make it right. When our body doesn’t perform up to parr we visit the medical professional and after a trip to the local pharmacy we begin to heal. But who fixes things when an entire land is broken? Where does an entire nation begin to make itself right after it has suffered pain and loss?

We have departed greatly from what God had originally created. With the entrance of sin into the world and into man the brokenness began. As we observe our world today, we see God's beautiful creation and we see His crowning creation, man, and we can’t help but wonder how did we get so far from God's original? Is there a way to get back to what God had originally created in this lifetime? As long as sin is in the world the answer is no, we will never return to what God created, but that doesn’t mean that He isn’t still in control of all things. God has given us His unchanging Word as to how to “fix” things.

2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

God has promised to hear our prayers, to forgive our sin, and to heal our land if those who He calls “my people,” believers in the saving gospel of Jesus Christ, will humble ourselves and acknowledge that it is from God alone that healing will come, pray for God's leadership in our life and in the life of others, seek God's presence and will to follow it and to obey it, and turn from the things that are wicked in God's sight which include our pride, stubbornness, and rebellion by wanting our will over His. Who can fix it? God can and He is ready, willing, and able to fix not only our life but our land as well if we will simply submit ourselves to Him.

Is there an answer?
As we walk through each day of our lives, we can see things that we question and wonder if this is the way God really intended it to be. Any amount of Bible study will reveal that what God first intended for man and for His creation is far from its original design. We see a world that is at war affecting people just like you and me with suffering because of the conflicts. We see hunger, poverty, illiteracy, rising costs, and discrimination at levels that just keep rising. Crime still has its grip on many neighborhoods with people who want to live peaceably afraid to go out of their houses. Illegal drugs have taken a toll on an entire generation and weakened them.

The answer to these issues seems to be distant or missing the mark. Social programs are very much needed and help to a degree. Laws that govern our land try to curb the violence that takes place and without them our nation would be complete chaos. Medical professionals do a wonderful job in substance rehabilitation, and many hours are spent by people who volunteer their time to that cause because they care. But the issues continue and there seems to be no end in sight. What is the true answer?

The problem is not the issues we face. They are only the symptoms of the true issue from which they have sprung up. The true issue is that people have turned from God and thinking themselves wise have become fools. God has given us His Word which is clear and absolute, changing not. The above statement from God Himself is directed to those who believe His Word. It is us who have placed our trust in the gospel of Jesus Christ who are the ones that must search our ways and return whole-heartedly and aggressively to our relationship with God through Jesus Christ, praying that we would be the child of God that we are intended to be and turn from our wicked ways of pride and stubbornness before our holy God. Then God will hear, forgive, and heal our land.
