“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 NIV)
This is such an important reminder of where our rest—true rest—comes from!
It doesn’t ultimately come from vacations, long weekends, or even retirement (though those things serve their purpose and can be such a blessing to us).
Nor does it come from binge-watching, doom-scrolling, or other forms of escape (which often make us feel worse afterward).
The rest that we crave, the kind that we need most, is rest for our souls.
It’s the kind that lets us know everything will be alright even if it doesn’t feel alright.
It’s the kind that comes when we stop striving to prove we’re good enough and instead believe that Christ is good enough for us.
It’s the kind that comes from believing, not working, and is centered on a person, not just an escape from our life.
Jesus is inviting you to find your rest in him.
