East Market Church We're dedicated to verse by verse teaching, discipleship at every age, and the Lordship of Jesus Christ over His church.

We believe that Christ is our example for living, and the Great Commission is our highest calling. EMC is as much a family as it is an assembly of believers, understanding that we are all different - but unified in Christ. At EMC people can expect to be welcomed no matter what their story is, encouraged to ask questions and seek biblical truth as we all continue to grow in Christ in Bible studies, study groups and fellowship. We strive to be transparent in leadership, patient and understanding with others and eager to grow in Christ likeness. We are all about equipping the saints through the scriptures, so that we can minister to others according to our gifts.

Who We Are and What We Do - 1 Peter 2:9-10

Our identity in Christ & our calling to ministry is a source of a lot of confusion for many Christians. In much of our effort we complicate things with strategies & self help, leading to frustration and disappointment.

When the people of God understand who they are & what they are called to though - we can’t be stopped.

The Bible presents a much more simple and ultimately satisfying way, where we can have confidence in our identity & calling - and it’s the word that shows us the way.

Safety or Stumbling - 1 Peter 2:6-8

To believers, Christ isn’t just a foundation - He is a refuge. But to others, Jesus becomes a stone in front of them that causes stumbling.

Those who stumble do so for two reasons. Either they are looking outside of Gods word for hope & help or their expectations are the by “trying” Christianity, their problems will magically disappear.

The truth is much simpler, but it requires us to surrender our will in every way. If we do, we will find our sanctuary in Christ. But if we turn away - we do so to our own destruction. God has destined only one way for us to be reconciled to Him, so - which is Christ to you?

Living Stones- 1 Peter 2:4-5

In this Sunday message from 1 Peter 2:4-5, we explore what it means that Jesus is the living stone—rejected by men but chosen and precious in God’s sight—and that we, as believers, are living stones being built into a spiritual house.

Peter shows us that the church is not a building made of brick and mortar, but a living temple made of people. We are being fitted together by God Himself to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable to Him through Jesus Christ.

Join us as we continue our verse-by-verse study through 1 Peter and discover our true identity and purpose in Christ.

In this message from 1 Peter 2:1-3, we explore the practical next step after being born again through the living and enduring Word of God. Peter calls us to put away all malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander

—and instead, like newborn infants, to long for the pure spiritual milk of the Word so that by it we may grow up into salvation.

If you have tasted that the Lord is good, this is “what now?”: stripping off the old ways that destroy relationships and craving the pure nourishment that produces real spiritual growth.Join us as we continue verse-by-verse through 1 Peter.

Eternal Life, Enduring Word - 1 Peter 1:17-25

There are a lot of things a church can involve itself in. But a quick look at our society reveals that the most important thing is too often overlooked - the gospel.

A short, gospel sounding message may close a service - but that doesn’t mean the gospel is the focus, or even really being shared. Searching for evidence of the power of God apart from the gospel we resort to enthusiasm in worship , or promises of signs and wonders that leave many disappointed and in search of the next quick fix.

But there is no substitute for the power of God in the gospel. Through His eternal word the Lord opens eyes, sets free & transforms rebel sinners into sons and daughters.

Join us as we continue verse by verse through 1 Peter, and see what the Bible has to say about truly being born again.

All of Christ for All of life- 1 Peter 1:13-16

Why are we saved? It’s not simply to go to heaven or to escape hell - our reconciliation to God is for His glory. That means that God wants to be seen in the lives of His people.

The command to “Be Holy as I am Holy” can seem like daunting thing - especially if we misunderstand what it means. It can even be a stumbling block to us if we think God is looking for a perfect performance from us, so understanding this one is pretty important.

Join us as we continue verse by verse through 1 Peter. We’ll find out what God means by “Holy”, and learn how this impossible command is made not only possible - but practical, because of the Spirit that dwells in us.

The Other Side of Suffering - 1 Peter 1:3-12

Pain is a part of life in a fallen world. But we often wonder, why does God allow us to walk through so much suffering? What purpose could it all possibly serve?

There are plenty of ministries that will quickly deny scripture and say that Gods will never includes trials & tribulations - but that is a lie. Our text today proves that Gods plan for us not only allows for suffering, but uses it for our good and for His glory.

The salvation we have been given is a prize so amazing that it shines even in suffering, as we go through valleys - our faith is being purified until the day we see Him face to face. Because of what we have gone through, we will bring glory and honor to His name for eternity.

If this is a truth that even angels long to observe, why are so many Christians unaware? Maybe by returning to scripture we can find out.
