In 1961, after only 6 years in our first building, Session gathered and agreed that we needed more space. In 1964, we chose the architects for the project - Thomas Architects, located in Columbia, SC. A building fund campaign began in 1966, and on June 4th, 1967, we held the groundbreaking ceremony for a new, larger sanctuary.
This building was designed with symbolism in mind, as well, repeating triangles throughout the design: in the shape of the roof; the windows in the main doors; and the location of the pulpit, baptismal font, and communion table in relation to the congregation. There are three steps in the front of the sanctuary doors, representative of the trinity; the exterior facade is designed to mirror ancient portable tabernacles and the support structures of their tents.
