1966 Ariel view of our little corner of the world!

This recently donated photo shows an aerial view taken in 1966 of the intersection of M-52 and Valley Road north of Adrian. At the southwest corner of the intersection, you can see the Raisin Valley Friends Church. Built in 1835, it is claimed to be the second oldest church building in Michigan.

The barn visible on the far right side of the photo has housed Johnson's Sporting Goods since 1945. Waldo Johnson bought the house in 1939 and his family still owns it today. This house, an 1840s-era Greek Revival home, now stands on Valley Road just west of 52, having been moved relocated a few hundred feet away from its original location several decades ago.

Note the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton Railroad line (now the Kiwanis Trail) slicing across the upper right portion of the photo; also note how M-52 was much narrower (only two lanes) in the image compared to its current width.

Feeling lukewarm?

Keep wood on your fire

Have you ever been in a state of being what the Bible calls, 'lukewarm"?

None of us want to admit it, but I feel certain we can all say we have been there at some point or another. What does the term, "lukewarm" mean? A quick google search says, "not showing much enthusiasm or interest".

In Christian terms, our fire (or passion) has died down and we are not making an effort to grow spiritually. As Christians, we are in a relationship with Jesus Christ and a relationship requires communication. It is a two-way street, and He is always there waiting on us but sometimes we fall short in showing up for Him.

If you are not growing closer in your relationship with Him, you are drifting away from Him. There is no "pause" button option.

In the Old Testament, the Israelites had to keep a fire on the alter to God constantly. The priests were to add wood to the fire every morning. This was for the purpose of burning offerings to Him (Leviticus 6:12-13).

Now obviously since the coming of Jesus Christ, we do not have to offer sacrifices on alters anymore. However, this Old Testament principle can be applicable to us today in a spiritual sense. Like the priests adding wood to the alter to keep it burning, we are to keep our relationship with Jesus burning through DAILY prayer, worship, and reading/meditating on His Word.

When we fail to do that, our fire will gradually dim down and we could fall in a lukewarm state.

In Revelation 3:15-16 it says, "I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth."

But praise God, that Jesus is always pursuing us!

I'm certain that some of you, in the middle of reading this, felt the drawing of the Holy Spirit to begin pursuing the Lord like you did at the beginning of your salvation.

So let this be an encouragement to you my sister, our Father is a good Father. He loves us with an everlasting love and is ALWAYS waiting on us with open arms. "Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you..." James 4:8

Come sing with us! We are having a Singspiration Sunday, August 31 starting at 6:00 PM. We choose favorites from our hymnal and sing for an hour and then enjoy homemade ice cream. All are welcome and we hope to see you there!

The more I know Him, the more I want to be like Him.
I must confess, I thought I’d have come a lot further after so many years of following Him, but He is ever patient with me. 🫶🏼
