Have you seen the amazing work of our SSK Preservation Committee members Nancy Gwozdz and Joe Armata? Along with Nancy's daughter, Sarah, they tackled the job of clearing the shrubbery from the Jesus statue behind the church. Donated by former pastor Fr. John Chwalek, the shrine had been neglected for many years, and foliage had engulfed the statue and surrounding area. Sunlight had been blocked from the church wall and base, promoting moisture and mold retention within the church wall and basement.

The crew removed invasives, trimmed back remaining plants, raked decades of debris accumulated on the ground, cleared the cement apron bordering the church wall of roots and dirt, and cleaned the statue and bench of lichen and moss. The church wall is now exposed to much-needed sunlight and air that will evaporate moisture and contribute to a dryer basement.

The shrine is once more an inviting space for prayer and reflection, as Fr. John intended. If you see these members, please thank them for all their hard work!

Drumroll please! Our latest fundraising total has reached $1,108,611. Incredible! And what's even more incredible is that from January to the end of July this year, you gave $95,000. Property update! A bid for the remediation of the mold in Kolbe Hall came in just shy of $100,000. As for the renovations, we will probably have two bids to work with. The first was "more favorable than expected," according to Skanska. Thus the bid will be closely reviewed to ensure the bidder did not miss anything and that all items line up with the scope of the project. Lastly, we've received a bid of $119,000 for the demolition of the rectory, with more bids to follow. None of this would be possible without your generosity. Kolbe Hall update! Atlas has finished with the abatement specs, and that work has gone out to bid. Bids will be going out to contractors for the two bathrooms.
