A Christian lives a life of contradiction. The world call us to strive to do our best and be the best. Yet Jesus calls us to become like humble children that we might be great in His Kingdom. We are called by God to work hard and be good stewards in the world and the church, yet acknowledge that all gifts, spiritual and temporal are from His loving hand. We can be good stewards of God's gift while leaving the greatness to Him. Jesus displayed His greatness as He hung on the cross defeating death on our behalf.

When Jesus revealed to the 12 that He was going to Jerusalem to die, Peter quickly objected. Troubled by the thought of Jesus death, Peter tried to prevent it. But that would have prevented the salvation that He came to offer Peter. You and I also surrender God's gifts by seeking the the pleasing things of this world. As Jesus shares His death and resurrection with us, He also shares His cross. Let us always follow the way of the cross that leads to life.
