We've appreciated a summer of new mindfulness practices...one more will be shared on Monday for Labor Day! This past Sunday, we imagined ourselves floating on water and looking at the sky.

MONDAY MINDFULNESS: Start your week with a little inspiration adapted from Jennifer Grant's book "Finding Calm in Nature: A Guide for Mindful Kids."

The surface off our Earth is more than 70 percent water, and water is what makes all life possible for every plant, animal, insect, and everything else.

Water also offers respite. Have you ever floated on your back or on an inflatable mattress in a lake or swimming pool? How do you feel when you stare up at the sky or when you close your eyes and experience the movement of the water? Floating on water, whether it’s inside or outside can help you feel calmer, more creative, and less stressed. Being in or on the water can even help your body recover after being injured or ill.

Even if you don’t live by a lake or pool, you can practice this kind of relaxation exercise. Just let your body relax in the bathtub or lie down on your bed and imagine yourself floating on gentle waves.

Close your eyes and pay attention to your breathing as you gently breathe in and out, and let your worries drift.
