I am sharing a devotional with those who wish to read them and any other news that may be pertinent to the friends and past members of the church family. Faith United Church of Ada was founded in 1970, when, after several years of prayer, discussion, and debate, the congregations of First Methodist and First Congregational (UCC) churches of Ada voted to become one congregation with a shared minist
ry. On September 13th, 1970 members of the two churches met, each at our own church building. They then marched to Thorpe Avenue where they merged into one body and walked to the newly constructed church building at the West end of Thorpe Avenue. This was the new home of Faith United Church and the start of our spiritual journey together. In October 2020, the congregation of Faith United Church decided that it was time to close its doors after 50 years of faithful service. Many members, past and present, reached out to express sadness at the news and shared a few of their fondest memories as well. Faith United has been a central part of many lives and its absence will be felt greatly in the months and years to come. There is a phrase that has been written in our Sunday bulletins and displayed over the sanctuary doors for years, “The worship is over, now the service begins.” Though our ministry is at its end, the call to be disciples of Jesus Christ continues. Live faithfully and as John Wesley said “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” In doing so, the legacy and mission of Faith United Church will be carried on into the future.
