Our St. Robert Altar Server Ministry held its second annual server picnic on Sunday May 31. Servers and their families enjoyed a beautiful day to form community and get to know each other better. Twelve servers attended and were recognized for their contributions.

This year, our ministry grew from 15 to 25 active servers, including adding 11 new servers last fall! These new servers were promoted from Server in Training to full Altar Server. Returning servers were thanked for their years of service- from two years all the way up to eight years of experience!

In addition, we celebrated four altar servers promoted to Lead Altar Server- our experienced high school-aged servers who help to guide the younger servers and assist with incense at Masses.

Congratulations to Kristen McNamara, Brady Brechting, Harper Brechting, and Audrey Rokos, and thank you for your continued dedication to the ministry!

We are always ready to welcome new servers - if you have a child who will be in fourth grade or older and is interested in joining this ministry, new server training will take place again this fall. Contact Amy Rokos for details and with questions at [email protected].

"I am the living bread that came down from heaven; ..."
Solemnity of the Most Holy Body & Blood of Christ, Year A
Gospel: John 6:51-58

Three key takeaways from Father Tony's June 7 homily:
✝For all of us as Catholics, this is it! The gift of the Eucharist; the source and summit of the spiritual life, the Christian life, said Father Tony. Without it, we are nothing. Jesus says that in the gospel.
✝The Eucharist was instituted by Christ at the Last Supper, as he said to his apostles, take and eat, this is my body; take and drink, this is my blood. This is a powerful sacrament and so it has gone on for 2,000 years.
✝Transubstantiation: it's a big word, what does it mean? The substance within the bread, the substance within the wine is transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit into the body and blood of Jesus Christ. It's not the priest, it's the Holy Spirit working through him. This is our spiritual food, our heavenly food. Jesus emphasizes this over and over again in John, chapter 6.
