Wash Your Hands Before

During COVID most of us learned to wash our hands more frequently and for a longer period of time. According to the CDC we should use a good soap and use it for 20 seconds. 20 seconds may not seem like a long time but I remember being taught to remind us of the 20 seconds was to sing the Happy Birthday Song TWICE. The soap is not like mouth wash and does not kill germs on contact. It kills germs by suffocation. We not only learned to wash hands before work we learned to wash hands while work. Hand Sanitizers went up everywhere to help the convenience of washing frequently.

I think most of us agree that we should wash our hands but how did mankind exist thousands of years without soap and sanitizers? In Matthew 15 the Scribes and Pharisees accused Jesus disciples of not washing before they eat. They rightly called it a tradition and Jesus responds by asking them why they didn’t wash the inside which was the Command of God.

James 4:8 tells us to do both and a lot more. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

To the work of God we need to clean up. Clean Hands, Clean Hearts, Clean Minds. How do we clean up? By Spending time with God, in His Word, in prayer to Him, Meditating on Him and His Will and Goodness. When is the last time You gave him a decent amount of time in prayer, Bible Study or just listening for His still small voice.

Father help us draw near and spend quality time with You, allowing Your Word and Your Spirit to cover us and wash us clean. Help us confess the error of our ways and plans, our sins, our shortcomings. Make us clean by the washing of the Word. In Jesus name I pray, Amen

Matthew 15:1 Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,
2 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.
3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

Matthew 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
10 And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:
11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

Ephesians 5:26
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

Living Water

I was reminded of simpler times and received a huge blessing yesterday. I was working on a project and had to go get some materials for the task I was working on. While paying out I grabbed 2 bottles of water from a cooler. The younger gentleman said he cut the materials from a piece they had laying around and made me a really good deal on the materials.

When he gave me the price, I told him I had the 2 bottles of water. He said I never charge for water and never will. That made me smile, and I shared with him that I still remember the first time I ever paid for water. It was such a surprise to have to pay for something that until that point in my life had been free. Yesterday I was so used to paying for water it was a surprise to get some for free.

The children of Israel when leaving Egypt in the Exodus had many days in the desert and complained about no water and bitter water. On two occasions God provided water from a Rock in the desert. The first time God told Moses to strike the Rock and water came forth. The second time God Told Moses to speak to the Rock, rather than speak to the Rock, Moses in his anger at the complaining people struck the rock (twice) and water came forth. Throughout the Bible the Rock and the Water are Jesus. As I read the exodus accounts it dawned on me that the Rock was Struck 3 times. Could that be prophetic of the 3 nails that held our Rock to the cross where he died to give us everlasting FREE water?

Today I urge YOU to speak to the Rock in Prayer. Ask for the Living water that is supplied in abundance in the desert of our lives. In Jesus name I pray for the Living Water from the Rock, In Jesus name I pray, Amen

Exodus 17:6
Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

Numbers 20:8
Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.

John 4:10
Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

John 7:38
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

Thy will be Done

In John 21 we find a moment of Jealousy (Peters Jealous of John’ Relationship with Jesus) where Peter asked Jesus what’s in store for John. Jesus had just told Peter 18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdest thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not. 19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.

That would have been in about 33AD, Fast forward to 92AD. Tradition and history tells us Peter had been crucified in about 64AD on a cross upside down at Peters request because he felt unworthy to die in the same manner as his Lord Jesus. Jesus words

Historical and traditional writher Tertullian records that John was thrown into a pot of boiling oil and John miraculously comes out unhurt or unharmed. Back to Jesus answer to Peter about what would happen to John. In John 21:22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

Jesus words almost predict Johns Miraculous Experience. Matthew and Luke both share the words of Jesus before his death that there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom. John did see the kingdom and Jesus come in his Revelation Vision of the end times.
There are two statements in Jesus statement to Peter in John 21 that are far more important what happened to John. 1) “If I Will” 2) “Follow Me”. The most important thing I can ever do is Gods Will for our lives and to do Gods will I MUST take up MY cross and follow Jesus Daily.
Father, Help me not be so concerned about Your plan for others that I miss Your plan for ME. Help me keep my hands on the plow You have for ME, in the Field You have for ME, in this Season you have for ME. In Jesus Mighty name I pray, Amen

The weight of Sin

Putting out some hay yesterday ahead of the cold so the cows could have a full belly, I drove past the old farm truck we used to haul square bales with. I sure don’t miss the long hot days of haul the hay into the barn. Yesterday I was glad I wasn’t hauling 20-25 of those square bales back out to the cows. Round bales and a front end loader made it easy to put out the hay.

Hauling hay was a tough job, picking up bale after bale stacking them on the old truck. Thinking about the process, Yesterday I was grateful for having that old truck to put the bales on. While I got tired of the bales 60-70 pounds weight often times we put 8 to 10 thousand pounds of hay on that truck. It was a 2 ton truck often loaded with 4 or 5 tons of hay. And that process would be repeated 8 to 10 times a day. The old truck often moved 40 to 50 tons of hay in a day to the barn.

Thinking about the weight that the old truck hauled in a day reminded me of Isaiah 53:6 … and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. I can only wonder how many tons of sin Jesus forgives every day. My sin, your sin, the sins of Ada, Oklahoma, USA, the World. In case you think sin might not be heavy Hebrews 12:1 “tells us let us lay aside every weight, and the sin” Isaiah 43:24 ESV … But you have burdened me with your sins; you have wearied me with your iniquities.

Then it hit me I wonder just how many sins Jesus bore on the cross.

Father today I ask one more time for Your forgiveness, forgive me for the mountains of sins You have forgiven me from. I can’t imagine the weight of the sins of the whole world. Thank you so much for carrying them to the sea of forgetfulness where You unload them and remember them No More. In Jesus name I pray, Amen

Lawful or Right

In Mark 10:2 there is an interesting phrase, “Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him.”.

Don’t get lost on the putting away the wife or even the tempting Him. Let’s think about the “Is it Lawful”. Could be anything behind that phrase. There are a lot of things that are legal but legal doesn’t make it right. It’s legal to stop praying, is it legal to skip church, is it legal to eat without washing your hands.

Jesus asked them “What did Moses command you” (what does the law say). Their reply “Moses suffered (allowed with gief) to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.

Then Jesus begins the teaching. Mark 10:5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.

Yes it’s legal but no it’s not right. Gods plan is better than legal. God’s plan is right.

Mark 10:6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;
8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.
9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

Jesus teaches us to treat people in the manner we want to be treated. Who wants to be put away? Outcast? Embarrassed? Humiliated? Alone?

We all want to be accepted, respected, embraced, loved, forgiven and held close.

Today I encourage you to not just consider what is legal but to choose what is right.

Father, soften our hearts to be more like You. To love, to embrace, to care for, to connect with our spouses, our children, our friends rather than doing the legal help us do the right. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
