After 149 years of faithful ministry, South Acton Congregational Church has officially concluded its journey! We are profoundly grateful for the service we've been able to provide to our community over the years.

We were honored to welcome 152 current and past members, guests from the community, local clergy, and friends of this congregation to celebrate our service of decommissioning. Your presence made this farewell all the more special.

Thank you to everyone who came to worship, reflect, and say goodbye to our beloved building. Although our doors may be closing, the spirit of this community will continue to live on in the hearts of all who have been part of this church family and in our worshipping community as it nests within West Concord Union Church.

If you weren't able to join us, we invite you to check out the video of the service here: https://www.youtube.com/live/jhu1nS03hmQ?si=3JemF7gvWONYNMZT

This morning, we set out on a journey from SACC to WCUC, carrying treasures from the sanctuary we’re leaving behind to our new spiritual home. These items hold memories and significance for our community. Today, they take on new life in our shared journey forward. What a blessing to be so warmly received at WCUC with spice cake and hot cider!

Check out these snapshots from the journey and stay tuned for a video of this morning's service, where these treasures will be formally received at WCUC!

As we reflect on the journey of South Acton Congregational Church, there is a deep sense of both gratitude and bittersweetness. Nearly two years ago, when this congregation began its journey with new leadership, there were signs of life but also much fatigue after the challenges of COVID and a long period without a pastor. However, what has unfolded over the past months has been nothing short of inspiring.

Through dedication, faith, and a shared mission, the congregation has come together in remarkable ways. In February, during a congregational retreat, we experienced what can only be described as a kairos moment. Together, we felt called to pursue a covenantal partnership with another congregation and, after much discernment, begin the process of closure and dissolution. While this decision was difficult, the clarity and peace that have followed have been a source of strength.

As part of this process, our beloved building has now been listed for sale. A heartfelt thank you goes to Ben Bolotin and his team at Region Commercial Real Estate for their support in this next step. The listing page is a beautiful reminder that this building, so central to our lives, can now become a home for something new. We also have hope that the proceeds from the sale will help bless the future of our ministry, both at our new home at West Concord Union Church and beyond.

Though this transition is filled with mixed emotions, we are keeping our eyes open for God’s presence in every step of this journey and finding grace along the way. If anyone is seeking a new space for their organization in South Acton, MA, please take a look at the listing and share it with others who might be interested.

This morning, many Americans—and people around the world—woke up to a sobering reality. While we need to allow time for all votes to be counted, Donald Trump will by all accounts be our next President.

It is deeply troubling and difficult to acknowledge that a majority of voters supported a candidate who has shown a disregard for the truth, has been involved in unethical and criminal behavior, and has run a campaign based on fear, division, and bigotry. His approach to leadership has raised serious concerns about his commitment to the Constitution and the rule of law. It’s a hard moment, and one that many of us never imagined we’d face.

In these times of uncertainty and heartbreak, we especially hold in our hearts those most vulnerable—poor people, immigrants, women, q***r and trans people, and all the young people who will inherit a more uncertain future. We are reminded of the need for compassion and solidarity, and we trust that God stands with us in our grief.

Yet, in the midst of this, we must not give in to despair. We must not meet hate with more hate or fear with more fear. Basic human impulses toward moral superiority, responding-in-kind, and 'us versus' them thinking are what got us here in the first place. Instead, let us draw strength from one another and stand together as a community committed to love, justice, and hope, even in a country that seems to have lost its way.

Those who voted for Trump are not the enemy. They are our neighbors and our siblings. The way forward is not through anger or division, but through living-out our values with conviction.

Let us be the Church—the body of Christ in the world, steadfast and faithful. Let us remember that we belong first and foremost to God and to each other, not to any nation state.

We will endure. We will overcome. Love will win.

The South Acton Church will be open to all for prayer, conversation, and community care today from 2pm-4pm: please join us, especially if you are feeling alone or in need of companionship.
