Two thoughts come to mind when reading the book of Leviticus. First, the reading of the demands regarding salt with sacrifices (Leviticus 2:13) may very well be a foreshadowing of the need for us as Christians to be the salt of the earth, as Jesus shared in Matthew 5:13. As Christians, we are to live our lives to glorify God, and in so doing, perhaps making the world more palatable for the Lord.
Second, the recognition of the very specific pattern the Lord gave to the Israelites regarding everything under the law. Just consider the specifics regarding the building of the tabernacle. If the Lord was that specific in the construction of the tabernacle, offerings, feast days, etc., then why is it that there are those in the religious world today who feel it is okay to do whatever, whenever and however we choose?
Some will suggest that Scripture is not as plain about the commands of worship today as in the days of Moses. Perhaps the problem can be blamed more on our lack of knowledge of God’s Word today, as well as our own personal preferences.
If you live in the Akerman, MS area, we invite you to worship with the Lord’s church each Sunday as we study to know God’s plan for our lives, for worship and most important the plan for eternal life!

Our relationship with the Lord is made manifest in our obedience to Him. Unfortunately, man has chosen for himself as to what is acceptable to God, even though God has made very clear what He will or will not accept.
Even during the days of Jesus, men determined the relationship with God according to their desires, instead of what God had determined. The Pharisees and lawyers rejected God’s purpose for them by rejecting the baptism of John. The Samaritan woman “argued” with Christ regarding the true place to worship God. On two separate occasions Jesus cleansed the temple of moneychangers. The religious leaders of the day argued against Jesus and His teaching because they were “children of Abraham.”
And now, some 2000 years later, we are no different. Religious leaders today teach whatever is acceptable to man and totally disregard what God has determined as truly acceptable.

“There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” (Proverbs 14:12).

Since the establishment of the Lord’s church in 33 A.D., there has only been one church and one body, no matter what man may say. A study of the many religious groups in the world today will show a founding date far later in history than the beginning date of the church we read of in the Bible. Scripture warns that there would be those who would depart from the faith. “But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith…” (1 Timothy 4:1). And if there were those leading away from the faith, there would surely be those who would follow. “…and will turn away their ears from the truth, and will turn aside to myths” (2 Timothy 4:4). Jesus warned of the coming of false prophets, “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves” (Matthew 7:15).
With all the religious confusion today, it may be easy to forget that Jesus built His church about 2000 years ago, exactly as He wanted it. When the Word of God, the pure seed, is planted today it will produce only Christians united in the ONE CHURCH established by Christ Himself.
If you live in the Ackerman, MS area, we invite you to worship with the Lord’s church each Sunday as we study God’s Word to know about the one church and the way it will impact our lives as we try to serve Him.

Some time ago as part of a religious survey, I was asked as to how old the church was. My very quick response was 2000 years, which was met with silence. I wasn’t trying to be a smart aleck and then proceeded to answer what the survey really wanted to know.
When people speak of the church today, they are usually referring to any religious body. Unfortunately, this is incorrect. There is only one church, as there is only one body of our Lord and Savior. Please take a moment to read through several of the Bible verses I have shared (Ephesians 1:22-23; 4:4; Colossians 1:18, 24).

There is only one church and one body, that being the body of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

What does a Christian look like? Should we be able to recognize a Christian from any other person on the street? At one time the church taught that there should be a see-able difference, but do we teach the same today?
Jesus said, “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (Matt. 5:16). The apostle Paul wrote, “…that you may prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a cooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, …” (Philippians 2:15). These two passages suggest that the light we are to shine for Christ should be seen by those with whom we come into contact each day.
What does a Christian look like? A Christian is the exact opposite of what the world is. A light to shine in a dark world and to draw attention to Christ (1 Peter 2:9).
If you live in the Ackerman, MS area, we invite you to worship with the Lord’s church each Sunday as we study God’s Word to know better how to be bright lights for the world as we live for our Heavenly Father!

Why do we consider God to be an awesome God? Is He awesome because of our good health? Is He awesome because we have a good job? Is He awesome because I have a loving family? Is He awesome because I consider Him to be awesome, based on what I think is important and as long as my life is going along swell? Or is He awesome because He is the Creator of the heavens and the earth and all that is within them and because He chose us in Him before the creation of the world and prepared a way of salvation through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior (Ephesians 1:3-14)?
If God is awesome based on our perception of how He works in our lives, then as long as everything goes according to our plans for life, He is indeed awesome. But if God is awesome, because He really is the great “I Am,” then we know that no matter what may happen in our lives, we can find peace in the knowledge that God is in control!
Our God is indeed an awesome God! May we give our lives to Him completely and then watch the wonderful things that He can achieve through us!
If you live in the Ackerman, MS area, we invite you to meet with the Lord’s church each Sunday morning as we study God’s Word to understand more about this awesome God we serve and how we can do it better each day!

One of the main reasons for God giving the Ten Commandments to the children of Israel was to show them a better way to live. Throughout the years there was much argument from the religious leaders trying to determine which one of the ten was most important. In Matthew 22, the Pharisees asked Jesus to identify the most important of the commands. His answer was, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matt. 22:37). It seems to me that one of the biggest struggles we face in our lives is that of learning obedience to God. When we focus on God first, then all other things begin to fall into place. Jesus not only taught a life of obedience, but He showed an obedient life as He walked on this earth (Phil. 2:5-8). An obedience that led Him to the cross for our sins.
Where is your focus in life? If you live in the Ackerman, MS area, we invite you to meet with the Lord’s church each Sunday morning as we study God’s Word to better know God’s will for our life and then to obey His Word better!

Passion, defined as an intense, driving, or overmastering feeling or conviction. It is also a strong desire or devotion to some activity, object, or concept. Passion for a sport is what drives athletes to perform at top levels despite injury or age. Passion for music is what drives performers of all ages to literally pour out their heart as they sing and play their music in concert or practice. And it is passion for Christ that will help us to live our lives for Him in whatever circumstance we find ourselves. It is this passion that led Paul to his statement in 2 Corinthians 5:13-14, “If we are out of our mind, it is for the sake of God;…For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all,…” I particularly like the words of Jeremiah, “…His word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot” (Jeremiah 20:9). Do you have that type of passion for the Lord?
If you live in the Ackerman, MS area, we invite you to worship with the Lord’s church each Sunday as we study God’s Word to develop a true passion for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Jesus did not say to deny things or deny a way of life or even deny a previous belief. Jesus said to deny yourself. And we really struggle with that concept. We are very much like the rich young man who turned from Jesus when told to sell all that he had and follow Jesus (Luke 18:18-30). We seem to have our limits as to how much and in what way we are willing to deny ourselves.
What keeps us from accepting the Lord’s invitation? A refusal to accept what the Lord has commanded and a refusal to deny our own personal desires and way of thinking. I find myself turning to Isaiah 55:8, 9 more and more to be reminded of the difference in my thoughts and the Lord’s. “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways…”
If you live in the Ackerman, MS area, we invite you to meet with the Lord’s church each Sunday as we study God’s Word to examine our lives daily to be sure that we are indeed denying our self completely and allowing the Lord to use us in anyway and every way He deems best!

In discussing the characteristics of love, I can’t help but believe that even though we may “understand” what love is supposed to be, we may rarely achieve the fullness of love, because we are unwilling to sacrifice our own personal feelings and pride. Many times we fall short of the love Jesus showed in His life, because we are unwilling to deny ourselves of our own personal wants and pleasures.
Jesus, the perfect example of self-denial, went to the cross and died for my sins (Philippians 2:6-8). I am glad He denied Himself completely, but isn’t that a little radical for the world in which I live? Wouldn’t I always find myself on the bottom of the heap? How could I ever get ahead in the “game of life?” I will not be treated as a floor mat! It may cost me my job or my best friend. What if my family disagrees with me? Does Christ really expect me to sacrifice my family? And Jesus said, “If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me” (Luke 9:23).
If you live in the Ackerman, MS area, we invite you to worship with the Lord’s church each Sunday morning as we open the Bible and study about God’s wonderful love seen in Christ and how we, too, can live a life of love for others as we deny ourselves and follow Christ!

We are quick to define self-denial as giving up of ourselves, but I wonder if we really understand the concept? It is easy to mouth the words and quite easy to quote the words of Jesus, “If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me” (Luke 9:23). But do we really deny ourselves anything that we truly desire? I know the first thought is that we deny ourselves regularly of all the “wonderful” things the world has to offer, but I would encourage each of us to delve a little deeper into the concept of total self-denial.
The apostle Paul challenged the early church to have the attitude of Christ… (Philippians 2). His attitude was always of going the second mile (or self-denial). We lay the burden of the cross on Jesus and forget that it was a choice that He made and I am so very thankful that He went the second mile to the cross for me. David said it well when he penned the words, “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4). When our true desire and delight is in the Lord, then there is no problem to self-denial and full commitment to God.
If you live in the Ackerman, MS area, we invite you to worship with the Lord’s church each Sunday morning as we study God’s Word to better understand the need for our self-denial and find a greater delight in the Lord!
