I grew up in an area where going to church on Sunday is just what you did. If you didn’t go regularly then you were the odd one.

I understand that this isn’t the same everywhere but I feel that this experience can easily turn church into a checklist vs going because you WANT to go and you feel lost without having that weekly filling of Christ.

For the first 35 years of my life church was a checklist, most of the time. I did have times in my life where I was hoping to have a magical moment of God telling me exactly how to solve my problems and make my life better. But that was me treating church and God like a genie. I was wrong doing that too.

It all changed for me when I went to church with my grandmother (in a town away from us) and heard someone preaching directly from the Bible and encouraged us to bring our Bibles too. This was totally foreign to me but absolutely what was missing in my faith life. We later got involved in a church in our community and love the sound of Bible pages flipping on Sunday morning.
